Bremond (13-0) vs. Mount Enterprise (13-0), 7 p.m. Friday at Palestine’s Wildcat Stadium:
It’s all eyes on Palestine Friday night as Texas Tech ATH commit Kaegan Ash can possible break Ken Hall’s single season rushing record if he can run for 224 yards this week. In last week’s 74-46 win over Overton, Ash piled up 420 yards and six scores.
The Wildcats since scoring “just” 32 points in Week 1 have scored at least 52 points in 12 straight games, but this week’s test is the biggest as fellow unbeaten Bremond awaits.
The Tigers, last year’s regional champion, boast a stout defense that was key last week in a sloppy 17-6 win over Mart. The Tigers forced four turnovers, but after putting up 17 first half points, the offense will need to be better. To expect their defense to hold up against the MEHS onslaught is a lot to ask.
Bremond’s defense is capable of getting a few stops, but the offense is a question, specifically the status of star RB Tank Scott, who did not play in last week’s win over Mart. Scott’s status going into this week is up in the air, but even if he plays it’s doubtful if he’s at 100 percent. I think Bremond wins with a healthy Scott, but Mount Enterprise is just too explosive on offense.
Stepp’s Pick: Mount Enterprise by 7
