Dave Campbell’s Texas Football has confirmed that long-time Trophy Club Nelson head coach Travis Pride has died, this according to a Northwest ISD communication sent out Wednesday afternoon.

Pride built Byron Nelson into one of the top 6A programs in the DFW area during his nine seasons, posting a 64-42 record with a high-water mark of 13-1 in 2023. Pride also spent time as a head coach at Wichita Falls and Mansfield Summit where he tallied a career record of 128-91. He was also an assistant coach on multiple state title teams at Southlake Carroll in the early 2000s.

“When I think of Travis Pride, I think of someone who supported student activity, from athletic programs to fine arts," Northwest ISD athletic director Joel Johnson said in the district communication. "Coach Pride lacked ego when came to the athletic programs at Byron Nelson. He wasn’t what you would picture as a head football coach, as he was an even-tempered leader who was a kid magnet. Students wanted to be around him, because he cared about them."

“Coach Pride was as a good as gold, he was a good man and my heart hurts for his family and kids at Byron," Flower Mound Marcus head coach Mike Alexander said.

On a personal note, I had many dealings with Coach Pride during his three stops as a head coach. He was always generous with his time and was never above having a good laugh or two. It was very easy to see the love that he had for his athletes.

If funeral arrangements or other details of services are made public, Dave Campbell’s Texas Football will share as deemed appropriate as we offer our condolences to Coach Pride’s family and the entire Byron Nelson community.
