Galena Park North Shore (13-0) vs Fort Bend Ridge Point (8-2)

2 p.m. Friday at Galena Park’s Galena Park ISD Stadium:

Two-time defending state champion Galena Park North Shore has their eyes set on a third straight title, but before that happens the Mustangs will need to get past a red-hot Ridge Point squad and earn the Region III crown.

North Shore has taken down back-to-back unbeaten teams the last two weeks, including a 47-22 win over Katy Tompkins that may have been the Mustangs most impressive win to date.

The Mustangs rolled up 604 yards offense to just 197 for Tompkins, and were led by Auburn signee Dematrius Davis, who threw for 302 yards and three touchdowns and ran for 84 yards and four touchdowns.

Texas A&M signee Shadrach Banks was sensational as well with 11 receptions for 251 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

Ridge Point’s offense was sensational last week as well as the Panthers knocked off Humble Atascocita 55-44. RPHS trailed early 14-0, but QB Bert Emmanuel, Jr. was a one-man wrecking crew, throwing three touchdown passes and running for three touchdowns.

It’s been a magical run for Ridge Point, their deepest in Class 6A under first-year head coach Rick LaFavers, but North Shore is a machine. The Mustangs are just too big, too physical, too fast and too motivated to earn their spot among the great TXHSFB dynasties.

Stepp’s Pick: Galena Park North Shore by 18
