Early Signing Period Central: Texas Longhorns

A Texas fan's one-stop-shop for the Early Signing Period. TexasFootball.com takes a closer look at Longhorn's 2022 recruiting class with analysis and superlatives.

Texas finished strong, flipping four-star CB Terrance Brooks from Ohio State, four-star ATH Xavion Brice from Oklahoma and three-star defensive end Ethan Burke from Michigan to secure the No. 5 class nationally.

Three Key Additions

Who were the highest-rated signees or prospects who might come in and make a significant impact?

OT Kelvin Banks Jr. (6'5, 300) - Humble Summer Creek: The first DCTF five-star offensive line signee since Kent Perkins in 2013. Banks is rated as the No. 4 prospect in the DCTF Hot 100 and the No. 1 OT in the state. Banks is a college-ready addition who has the ability to play up and down the offensive front. He should step in and provide immediate depth.

S BJ Allen (6'0, 185) - Aledo: The No. 10 prospect in the DCTF Hot 100 checks in as the No. 2 safety in the state. Allen is a headhunter in the defensive secondary who shows the closing speed and range of a truly special player.

RB Jaydon Blue (5'11, 205) - Klein Cain: The No. 1 rated running back in the Lone Star State opted out of his senior season at Klein Cain, but had already established himself as one of the top recruits in the country. His burst allows him to run through arm tackles to and his ability to separate with 10.79 100-meter speed truly makes him a difference maker.

Fan Favorite

What prospect was a fan favorite on social media or a local hero who starred near the campus?

DE/OLB Derrick Brown (6'3, 210) - Texas High: Brown was a key figure on social media, promoting the UT class and rallying recruits to the 40 Acres. Additionally, he is a very talented prospect who is a terror off the edge.

Super Sleeper

We pick one prospect on the commit list and break down how he might outplay his ranking in college.

DT Kristopher Ross (6'3, 280) - North Shore: The Houston Touchdown Club Defensive Player of the Year. Ross has been a rock in the middle of the North Shore defense for years. The DCTF three-star has all of the makings to come in and make an impact. He is quick off the ball, has the desired size and strength, and has been battle-tested against the highest levels of TXHSFB competition.
