Fairfield (11-0) vs Yoakum (9-2), 7 p.m. Friday at Belton’s Tiger Field:
If you like big plays and explosive offenses, Belton may be the place to be Friday night as Fairfield and Yoakum battle in a game that could have a ton of fireworks.
Last week Fairfield got pushed for a half against Anahuac but a 41-point second half outburst turned a close game into a rout in a 62-21 win. QB Kohl Collins leads a dynamic offense that has weapons galore at the skill spots.
The Fairfield defense has been touched up at times, and they’ll need their best game against a Yoakum squad that’s equally battle-tested and has played a tougher schedule across the board. The Bulldogs last week drilled McGregor, 66-22. Sophomore QB Germann Robinson has some scary weaponry at his disposal, including star freshman RB Germarquis Robinson and SMU WR commit X’Zavier Barnett among others.
Yoakum’s been in some battles and tested themselves with games against Cuero, Columbus, Hitchcock, Blanco, West Columbia and Port Lavaca Calhoun; those games will prep them for this shootout and I think late, the Yoakum defense gets a key stop to secure the win.
