Brownsville Rivera hasn’t made the postseason in a decade, and the drop down to 5A didn’t help as much as most would think. District 15-5A DI is one of the state’s most loaded leagues, with Corpus Christi Flour Bluff and PSJA North both at 8-0 and Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial, not far behind at 6-2.
Back in 5A for the first time since 2013, Americas is 5-3 and seeking its second winning season since 2019.
A drop to 5A, combined with the emergence of Minnesota RB commit Ryan Estrada, powered El Dorado to its first ten-win season in school history in 2024. The Aztecs are currently 7-1.
Former head coach Ricklan Holmes led the Rangers to their first playoff appearance in school history in 2024. New head coach Marvin Nash, most recently the assistant director of player personnel at Ole Miss, has Chisholm Trail at 5-3 and in the hunt for a playoff spot in the nine-team District 4-5A DI.
Paschal reached the playoffs for the first time since 1995 last season and is currently 5-3. The last time the Panthers had back-to-back winning seasons was 1976-77.
Highland Park won three-straight 5A DI State Championships from 2016-18 and reached the title game last year after bumping down.

With 14 starters returning, Westbury is 8-1 and has already matched its highest win total since the 2008 season.

Pasadena’s last winning season was in 2002. The Eagles will face Fort Bend Kempner this week in a battle of 0-5 District 11-5A DI teams.
First-year head coach Malcolm Hill was hired in early June but has hit the ground running with a 7-1 start.
The Mustangs are racing to their third-consecutive playoff appearance with a 7-1 record, which would be the first time in school history. Nothing is guaranteed, however, in the hectic District 14-5A DI, which has the possibility of a five-way tie for district champion.

Biggest Boost: Austin Eastside
Austin Eastside didn’t win a game from 2018 to 2023. This season, they’ve clinched a playoff appearance in District 13-4A DI with a 6-3 record.
The Jaguars reached the Class 4A DI State Championship in 2021 before spending the next two seasons in 5A. Austin LBJ had to forfeit its wins from an 11-1 2024 season, but the program hasn’t lost a District 13-4A DII game.
Northeast has had one winning season since 2003. The Raiders have won two District 13-4A DI games in two years, both against Austin Achieve.
Travis made two consecutive playoff appearances but has stumbled to a 1-3 District 13-4A DI record after having to replace 16 starters on both sides of the ball.
Conrad has had just two winning seasons since the program started in 2008.
The defending District 8-4A DI Champions have made the playoffs in all but two seasons since 2010.
After four consecutive losing seasons in 5A, El Paso Ysleta has compiled a 12-2 District 1-4A DI record over the past two seasons.
Willowridge had three straight seven-win seasons from 2018-20, but has only won one District 12-4A DI game since dropping a classification.
Coach Joseph Turner is seeking Southwest’s second playoff appearance in as many years with a 2-2 District 5-4A DI record.
Northside has not had a winning season since 2008.
Lake Dallas dropped a classification but was placed in arguably the toughest district in Texas, regardless of level. District 7-4A DI is a gauntlet with Celina, Frisco Panther Creek, and Sulphur Springs.
Coach Jason Bachman led the Pirates to their first 10-win season since 1976 in their first year in 4A. Pine Tree has bounced back from a 0-2 start with a 5-1 stretch.
Valley View has only had two winning seasons since the program started in 2006. The Tigers’ two wins in the past two seasons have both come against Rio Grande City Grulla.

Bishop had five-straight playoff appearances and is now 4-1 in District 16-3A DI under new head coach David McHugh.
After back-to-back one-win seasons, the Bears charged to a 5-1 record to start the year. With losses to Mathis and London, they’re on the outside of the playoff picture, looking in.
Orange Grove had four consecutive 10-win seasons from 2012-15, and the Bulldogs have put on a vintage performance with a 7-1 start to this year.
In one of the state’s best stories, first-year head coach Will Littleton has the Bearkats at 8-0 after five consecutive losing seasons.
The Lions have not had a winning season since the program began in 2020.
Sweetwater started 1-4 after playing three 4A programs. The offense is averaging 48 points per game in District 3-3A DI play.
The Leopards are fighting for a playoff spot with a 2-2 District 8-3A DI record after losing star athlete Dequane Prevo this summer.

Back in 2A for the first time since 2017, Abernathy plays Olton this week in a win-and-get-in to the playoffs scenario.

Mildred went from six wins in 3A to 12 wins in 2A, and the 6-2 start in 2025 has proven that wasn’t a mirage.
New coach Shea Bolton is Danbury’s sixth head coach since 2013. They haven’t had a winning season since that season.

Boys Ranch started 4-0 for the first time in school history and can secure a playoff spot with a win over Wildorado.
