Round Rock (3-3, 3-1) at Hutto (4-1, 3-0): If you are trying to make sense of the 25-6A race right now, it might be best to wait a few more weeks because it is an absolute jumble of teams.
One team that’s above the fray at the moment is unbeaten Hutto, but first year head coach Eli Reinhart wants to continue to stay out of that jumble with a win this week over always tough Round Rock.
The Dragons rolled to an easy 63-0 win over Manor last week. Things seem to be coming together for RRHS after their 0-3 start in which they lost two games by a total of eight points.
Hutto got pushed last week, but the Hippos earned their fourth straight win slipping past Round Rock Westwood 34-18. Trailing 10-7 in the third quarter, the Hippos got it rolling as QB Kaden Stefek tossed two touchdown passes to Dylan Owens and Keilan Chavies in less than a minute to turn a three-point deficit into a 21-10 lead. After Westwood cut the lead to 21-18, Chaves returned the ensuing kickoff for a score.
The final blow in the fourth came on a trick play as Owens took a lateral from Stefek and hit WR Jaiden Fields for a touchdown to put the game away.
Hutto’s defense has been a bit up and down this year, but the last two weeks they appear to be rounding into form.
Winner of this game has the inside track to possibly hosting a bi-district playoff game, so this one has a lot on the line. Round Rock’s playing good football, but Hutto’s been finding ways to win thus far. Both teams are on nice winning streaks and something has to give.
We’ll go with Hutto at home in a true coin flip.
