The District 7-2A Division I executive committee has ruled Rio Vista ineligible for the 2025 playoffs, multiple sources confirmed to Dave Campbell’s Texas Football.
On September 2, the District 7-2A Division I District Executive Committee (DEC) met to address allegations of student-athlete recruitment at Rio Vista, according to sources close to the district executive committee.
The allegations focused on inducements for players from the same club 7-on-7 team to move into the district for the purpose of playing football. After the meeting, the DEC voted unanimously to rule multiple Rio Vista student-athletes ineligible for varsity competition and to ban the Rio Vista football team from the postseason for the 2025 season.
In its ruling, the DEC found no evidence that Rio Vista ISD coaches were directly involved in the alleged recruitment. As a result, no punishments or recommendations of punishment were issued to any Rio Vista coaches.
Rio Vista, now 1-0 on the season after a 26-20 Week 1 win over Hico, had been considered a contender for the District 7-2A Division I title in most preseason projections.
It is expected that Rio Vista will appeal Tuesday’s ruling to the UIL State Executive Committee (SEC). Until a final decision is made, the Eagles remain ineligible for the playoffs and the status of their six scheduled district games is uncertain.
