The GOAT

Vernon has produced some outstanding running backs, including Bernard Scott, who later played in the NFL with the Cincinnati Bengals. Still, it’s the man who started the running back tradition who is considered the GOAT. Derrick Richardson was the Class 3A Player of the Year after gaining 2,459 yards and scoring 44 touchdowns on the ground while leading Vernon to the 1990 state title.

Sophomore Tyce Payne is a player to watch on the Lions this year after producing 95 tackles, 24 tackles for loss, three sacks, and forcing two fumbles at linebacker during his freshman season.
