Madisonville (5-0) at Columbus (5-0): In a week full of byes where many of the state’s ranked teams are off, we get a showdown with the No. 10 team in 4A-Division II Madisonville visiting the No. 2 team in 3A-Division I in Columbus.
Madisonville has been red hot the past two weeks topping the 60-point mark in both games, including last week’s 62-14 win over Livingston. QB Ty Williams threw for 312 yards and six touchdowns, and he added 69 yards on the ground as Madisonville set a school record for total yards in game.
Texas Tech commit WR/DB Lorenzo Johnson is the headliner for the Mustangs on both sides of the ball.
Columbus rolled past Huffman-Hargrave, 42-14, and are led by Baylor QB commit Adam Schobel, while speedy RB Ty’Von Whitehead adds explosiveness to the Cardinals rushing attack.
CHS rolled past Madisonville on the road a year ago. I think this year’s matchup will be closer, especially with Madisonville’s improved defense. But Columbus is a bit too deep and too strong up front.
