The Matchup: Both teams have had two weeks since their respective season opening games. The Cru were in their typical dominating form defeating Belhaven 41-0 on the road. Southwestern opened the season at home with a 28-17 loss to East Texas Baptist.

The Pirates are opening the season against the two teams predicted to finish atop the American Southwest Conference this season. The good news for Southwestern? The remaining schedule will not be as challenging.

Players to Watch:

SU - Landry Gilpin, QB, So, Mission, Texas (Veterans Memorial HS)

Ben Brockman, LB, Sr, Midland, Texas (Greenwood HS)

Bernard Sencherey, LB, Lake Jackson, Texas (Brazoswood HS)

UMHB - Tommy Bowden, QB, So, Brownwood, Texas (Brownwood HS)

Jefferson Fritz, Sr, Kaufman, Texas (Kaufman HS)

Mikkah Hackett, Sr, Alto, Texas (Alto HS)

Key to Victory: UMHB is known for its outstanding defense and this spring is no exception. Pirates quarterback Landry Gilpin and company will need to keep the chains moving and keep their defense off the field. SU cannot settle for field goals.

Cru quarterback Tommy Bowden was superb in the season opener leading the team in rushing. The one area Bowden will seek to improve this week is his completion percentage after only completing 11-of-23 attempts against Belhaven.

Prediction: UMHB by 24
