El Paso Eastwood (4-1, 1-0) at El Paso Pebble Hills (4-1, 1-0)

It’s the game of the week in the Sun City as the 1-6A title looks to be on the line as Eastwood travels to the edge of town to take on Pebble Hills in a showcase game for the 915.

Weather has been issue in El Paso all season long as both teams have already won rain-shortened games.

Eastwood absolutely dominated previously unbeaten El Paso Eastlake last week, 42-0, and it was the Troopers defense, which really set the tone with an early scoop and score as Noah Williams sacked Eastlake’s QB and LB Andrew Flanagan scooped up the fumble and score for the Troopers; Flanagan also had a pair of sacks.

QB Kingston Jeffries was solid, while RB Matthew Ramirez ran for 186 yards and three scores.

Pebble Hills’ game against El Paso Montwood made it to the fourth quarter before it was called due to storms in the area with the Spartans up 44-7.

Joe Fernandez, a three-year starter, was the key as he threw for 247 yards and three scores, while adding 60 yards on the ground and a score. His top target was junior WR/DB LJ Bailey, who broke out with five catches for 144 yards and two scores in the win. Whichever defense can rise to the occasion is going to take this one home.

Both teams are led by three-year starters at the QB spot, and both teams have a ton of offensive firepower. The key will be which defense can come up with a big play in a big moment.

Eastwood has the best homefield advantage in El Paso, but this is a road game, so that edge isn’t there. In this coin flip game, I’m taking the home team.
