Texas Tech commit 2027 WR Julian Caldwell earned Player of the Game honors after catching 10 passes for 241 yards and four touchdowns in Argyle’s 70-37 win over Highland Park on Dave Campbell's Friday Night Football.

While Caldwell put on a show, 2028 QB Hayes Hackney proved he has the skills to command more recruiting attention. 

The 5-foot-10, 195-pounder delivered an eye-opening performance, completing 23-of-27 passes for 339 yards and five touchdowns and leading an Eagles offense that piled up 662 total yards against the Scots.

Through four games, Hackney has completed 78-of-106 passes for 1,356 yards, 17 touchdowns, and no interceptions.

Before transferring to Argyle in January, Hackney led Prosper Walnut Grove to a 23-3 record across two varsity seasons, with two of those losses coming against Argyle in the playoffs.

So, Argyle head coach Todd Rodgers already had a strong feel for what Hackney brought to the table. 

“I had to defend him for 2 years (in the playoffs), so I knew he was a special quarterback,” Rodgers said.

Hackney's arrival gave Rodgers and the Argyle staff a full offseason to get him comfortable with the system. By spring football, Hackney was learning the terminology and offensive concepts, and the Eagles have continued to expand what they put on his plate each week.

Rodgers described the workload as “NFL quarterback stuff,” and Hackney's ability to process it has helped Argyle crank up its offensive attack. 

“When he moved in, I knew that, you know, he was already a good player,” Rodgers said. “And all we need to do is to have a good system around him for him to be a high-functioning big-time quarterback."

Hackney currently has offers from UTSA and SFA.
