The District 5-6A Executive Committee (DEC) met Friday morning and ruled Lewisville quarterback Laykon Brassfield ineligible for varsity competition at Lewisville High School by a 7-0 vote by the DEC. 

Brassfield, a 2028 signal caller who transferred into Lewisville High School this spring from Edmond North High School in Oklahoma, was found by the DEC to have a dual residency issue, which called into question which residence did the Lewisville signal caller reside at primarily. This question makes him ineligible for varsity competition until a residency waiver is approved by the UIL, if no approved Brassfield would be ineligible for one calendar year from the date of original enrollment at Lewisville High School. 

In three non-district games for the Farmers, Brassfield made quite the impression for LHS throwing for 734 yards and 14 touchdowns and adding 133 yards on the ground and two scores. The ruling by the DEC not only makes Brassfield ineligible, but also will force Lewisville, ranked 13th in the state in the 6A rankings to forfeit all three of their non-district wins as Brassfield played in all three games.

Lewisville will open 5-6A play tonight at home against Flower Mound Marcus in the Battle of the Axe and instead of coming into the game 3-0, officially the Farmers will be 0-3. If there is a silver lining for Lewisville, it is that the forfeits are all taking place in non-district games and those losses themselves will have no impact on their playoff chances.

A a residency waiver by Brassfield’s family is expected to be submitted to the UIL and a final review and hearing (if needed) will take place at a date to be determined.
