First-year head coach Bobby Watkins served as the defensive coordinator for two years at West Mesquite, helping the team post a 22-3 record. He’s already bringing the winning ways to Arlington Sam Houston. At 3-0, the Texans have already matched the most wins in a single season since 2021 (3-7).

Coach Laytner Kennedy’s squad took their lumps in his first season. But after losing just two starters to graduation, Bogota Rivercrest believed they could contend for a playoff spot. The Rebels are starting to make believers out of the state with a 3-0 start. Dual-threat quarterback Parker Johnson leads an offense that’s averaging 49 points per game.

Coach Mike Trahan felt his team was ready to compete after back-to-back 1-9 seasons. Now, the state sees what he saw all offseason. A Buna team that lost just five seniors has pulled upsets over Kountze in Week 1 and Woodville in Week 2.

There’s no reason for these Cats to feel Blue so far in 2026. Coleman kicked off the year with a win over 23-point favorite San Angelo Grape Creek and has since compiled a 3-0 record. Coleman will have a tough test this week against perennial power Albany, which should prepare them for district play.

Dallas-Fort Worth football fans might not have known much about new Denton Braswell head coach Justen Evans, but they’re starting to get the idea after three weeks of the season. Evans, who held an 84-36 overall coaching record heading into the 2026 season, turned Corpus Christi Miller into a powerhouse. His formula is showing early success at Denton Braswell. Sophomore running back Chris Lark has been a breakout star, rushing for 419 yards and six touchdowns.

Current Computer Ranking: 83 in Class 3A DI (up 12 spots from preseason)
New head coach Phillip Smith inherited a program that went 3-27 under three different head coaches over the last three seasons. Now, the Bulldogs are showing some bite behind their bark with a 3-0 start. Senior quarterback Donnie Bevis has been a spark plug for the offense, rushing for 185.3 yards per game with 12 touchdowns.

Coach Brian Basil entered the 2026 season optimistic, with an intriguing group of juniors moving up to varsity football after an 8-2 JV season. Running back Wyatt LeJeune, a leader of the Class of 2028, has rushed for 356 yards and five touchdowns. Three-year starter Chase Alves captains a defense that pitched a shutout in Week 2 against Keller Timber Creek.

Coach Bobby Darnell had playoff expectations for a roster that returned 17 starters. While most didn’t believe Fort Bend Clements could make its first playoff appearance since 2022, fans across the state are starting to see the vision. The Rangers have lit up scoreboards with the passing attack of quarterback Trey Rivera (836 yards, 12 TDs, 2 INTs) and wide receiver Lamar Lewis (17 catches, 477 yards, 7 TDs).

After winning just two games in the last three years, new head coach Justin Velasquez has led the Exporters to a 3-0 start. Brazosport’s defense has allowed just four points per game with two shutouts. Sophomore Luke Kucera is the defense’s breakout star with 11.5 tackles per game, three tackles for loss, and a sack.

Coach Luke Hobbs hoped his talented sub-varsity players were ready for the Friday Night Lights as the 2026 season began. These young Buffaloes, especially sophomore quarterback Zaybryn Barrera (83 percent completion rate, 5:0 TD/INT ratio), have proven him right. Senior linebacker Iris Wade-Allen has led a ball-hawking defense that’s already intercepted six passes.

Current Computer Ranking: 49 in Class 4A DII (up 22 spots from preseason)
Coach Travis Chrisman relied on plenty of young skill position players last season. Now, with another year of experience, those promising players are leading an offense that’s averaging 50.3 points per game. Junior quarterback Landon Younk has thrown for 592 yards, nine touchdowns, and just two interceptions, distributing to a plethora of receivers.

After a winless first season, head coach Chris Babin is leading Katy Taylor on one of the quickest turnarounds in the Houston area. Senior running back Sebastian Ramirez has rushed for 135 yards per game with six touchdowns. Katy Taylor, already 1-0 in district play, has a tough test this week against Katy Tompkins, a perennial playoff team.

Knox City’s 2025 season was derailed by injuries, but Coach Caleb Callaway’s club has bounced back with a 3-0 start to the season.

La Joya Juarez-Lincoln has gone winless in five of its last seven seasons. With a 3-0 start, the Huskies have matched their win total from the 2018-2025 seasons. Junior linebacker Servando Castillo headlines a defense that’s allowing just 12 points per game.

Little Elm entered the year on a 22-game losing streak, but Coach Keiston Alexander has flipped the script with a different streak: 3-0. Dual-threat junior quarterback Sash Suriya leads the Lobos with 596 passing yards, 222 rushing yards, and nine total touchdowns. Senior defensive end Zayden Watts has been a terror off the edge with three sacks.

Coach Mike Maldonado has improved Lockhart from 1-9 to 3-0 in his second year at the helm. The wide receiver tandem of Bob Estrada and Demonte Anthony has helped the Lions roar out of the gate, while sophomore Joel Garcia has been a breakout star on defense with three interceptions.

Most of the state was sleeping on Nevada Community after back-to-back 1-9 seasons and a jump to Class 5A DII. After a 3-0 start, those fans are waking up. Senior linebacker Kelvin Shomuyiwa has racked up 12.7 tackles per game and two sacks, leading a Braves defense that’s allowing just 11.3 points per game.

Current Computer Ranking: 67 in Class 2A DI (up 26 from preseason)
In his second season, Coach Jeff Hill’s squad has already bested last year’s win total with the help of a strong junior class. The Indians are outscoring opponents by an average of 31.7 points per game.

PSJA Southwest has never made the playoffs, but the Javelinas have their sights set on the postseason after a 3-0 start. PSJA Southwest’s stout defense has held opponents to an average of 6.7 points per game, while the offense scored 42 points last week against Pharr Valley View.

Current Computer Ranking: 54 in Class 3A DII (up 21 from preseason)
After back-to-back 2-8 seasons, Redwater is on a 3-0 tear thanks in large part to the stellar play of quarterback Braelan Morgan. The senior is passing for just under 200 yards per game with five touchdowns, and he’s also leading the Dragons’ rushing attack with 310 yards and six scores on the ground.

Last Winning Season: 2023 (6-5)
Current Computer Ranking: 44 in Class 4A DII (up 21 from preseason)
Rusk started 12 sophomores and a freshman last year, but those young Eagles are now soaring in 2026. After a 33-0 win over Livingston and a 76-0 win over Wills Point, Rusk showed it could win a close game with a 35-34 victory over Palestine.

Last Winning Season: 2015 (6-4)
Current Computer Ranking: 178 in Class 6A (up 61 from preseason)
New head coach Eddie Veyran has already won more games this season (3) than San Antonio Lee has won since 2015, when the Volunteers went 6-4. Lee opens district play next week with San Antonio Johnson, which will be their toughest district test by far.

Current Computer Ranking: 62 in Class 5A DII (up up 16 from preseason)
Coach Robbie Deheck became the first Splendora head coach to return for a second season in four years, and that continuity is paying dividends with a 3-0 start. Strong safety De’Merion Anderson has been a tackling machine with 16.3 stops per game. He also leads the Wildcats with two interceptions.

Current Computer Ranking: 88 in Class 2A DI (up 13 from preseason)
Coach Andrew Raiden was promoted this offseason, and he’s already proving the Trenton administration right. This tiny town in far North Texas hasn’t had a winning season since 1993 – of note, the program was discontinued from 1957 to 2012 – but the Tigers are 3-0.

Current Computer Ranking: 38 in Class 1A DI (up 17 from preseason)
After a trying 2-8 season, Veribest is already 3-0 and is outscoring opponents by an average of 50.3 points per game with two shutouts.

Wichita Falls Legacy turned heads this summer by winning the Division I Consolation Bracket State 7-on-7 Championship. That summer success has translated to the fall with a 3-0 start. Junior quarterback Knox Hodges, a three-year starter, has lit up scoreboards with 986 yards, 12 touchdowns, and zero interceptions.

Current Computer Ranking: 46 in Class 1A DI (up 31 spots from preseason)
Wildorado hasn’t looked like a team that lost most of its offensive production, scoring an average of 69.7 points per game.
