These TXHSFB Teams Snapped 20+ Game Losing Streaks in Week 1
Some of the longest losing streaks in Texas high school football were snapped in Week 1 of the 2026 season, including the Cleveland Indians, Laredo Cigarroa, Little Elm and Brownfield.
Week 1 Result: 21-0 win over Hidalgo
Last win: October 20, 2022 (32-game streak)
You couldn’t have scripted a better debut for head coach Benny Ellison, as the Toros won for the first time since the 2022 season. After a 7-3 campaign that year, Laredo Cigarroa has gone 0-10 for three consecutive seasons. For reference, that means the senior class had not experienced a win – until last Friday night, when the Toros topped Hidalgo 21-0.
Week 1 Result: 46-22 win over Baird
Last win: September 1, 2023 (28-game streak)
Former Munday head coach Webb Murphy took over an Abilene TLCA program this offseason that had one win in four seasons as an 11-man program. Murphy is one-for-one after Week 1, when his Eagles soared to a 46-20 win over Baird.
Week 1 Result: 41-8 win over CC John Paul II
Last win: August 31, 2023 (27-game streak)
After setting the culture in Year 1, head coach Jay Aleman got his first win at Riviera Kaufer when his Seahawks flew to a 41-8 win over Corpus Christi John Paul II. Every aspect of Aleman’s ‘G3’ mindset – Grit, Growth, and Greatness – was evident in the gutsy win.
Week 1 Result: 20-6 win over Fort Worth Southwest
Last win: September 28, 2023 (22-game streak)
Since the end of the 2024 season, the Mustangs have had four different head coaches and zero wins. But former Frisco Heritage offensive coordinator Larry Colvin snapped a 24-game losing streak in his first game as the head coach. The Mustangs have another winnable game next week with Dallas Spruce.
Week 1 Result: 30-10 win over Arlington Lamar
Last win: September 7, 2023 (22-game streak)
Former Coppell special teams coordinator Keiston Alexander didn’t improve Little Elm’s record in Year 1 last fall, but those who watched the games saw how much more competitive the Lobos were. Four of Little Elm’s losses were by one score or less. The Lobos’ offense improved by a full touchdown in points per game, while the defense allowed nearly two fewer touchdowns per game.
Now, with help from a state championship basketball squad, the Lobos pulled off arguably the biggest upset of Week 1, beating 24-point favorite Arlington Lamar 30-10. Quarterback Suriya Sashwath was exceptional, throwing for 231 yards and three touchdowns while also leading the team with 86 rushing yards.
Week 1 Result: 26-20 win over Alba-Golden
Last win: October 26, 2023 (21-game streak)
Head coach Dillon Surratt, the nephew of 11-time state champion Carthage head coach Scott Surratt, clinched Linden-Kildare’s first win since 2023 with a 26-20 defeat of Alba-Golden. The Tigers return 17 starters, headlined by leading rusher Breckin Wells and quarterback Ayden Rainge.
Week 1 Result: 48-0 over Austin Achieve
Last win: November 2, 2023 (20-game streak)
A new head coach – Darby House, imported from Nacogdoches – and a drop down to Class 3A had hopes high in Tiger Land. If Week 1 was any indication, House is already building something special. Smithville has a strong sophomore class that gained valuable experience in a 48-0 win.
Week 1 Result: 36-26 win over Morton
Last win: November 2, 2023 (20-game streak)
After a winless season, Brownfield head coach Lawrence Johnson said his players responded to adversity the right way by attacking the offseason workout program. All that hard work paid off in Week 1, when Brownfield beat Morton 36-26. The Cubs have a strong group of leaders, headlined by two-way star Braydon Luther (100 tackles, five tackles for loss, three sacks, two pass breakups, and a pick-six).
