Stepp's 2A DII Region IV Picks: District Projections and Playoff Outlook

DISTRICT PREDICTIONS

District 13-2A Division II

  1. Bremond
  2. Chilton
  3. Burton
  4. Somerville
  5. Holland
  6. Bartlett
  7. Milano
  8. Snook

Bremond and Chilton headline this district as both teams look to have their sights set on a regional title with Region IV opening up after Shiner moved to Division I. Bremond has a veteran QB and a monster RB in Tyriq Scott; the Tigers will be thin in the trenches but if they stay healthy they have enough to make a run. If things go sideways, Chilton may be ready to pounce. The Pirates have maybe the most dominant player in the region in QB/DB Marneko Thomas, Jr. Team speed is aplenty for Chilton. Burton with seven back on both sides of the ball will be much-improved, but that may only be good enough for third. Somerville gets the edge over Holland for the four spot, but expect major improvement from Holland under new head coach Phillip Gibson.

District 14-2A Division II

  1. Junction
  2. Harper
  3. D’Hanis
  4. Brackettville
  5. La Pryor
  6. Sabinal
  7. Center Point

Junction is fresh off back-to-back trips to the regional finals. The Eagles may not have enough to contend regionally with just six total starters back. They should have enough to take home a third straight district title. Things get really intriguing after that with Harper, D’Hanis, Brackettville, La Pryor and Sabinal all making a case for playoff spots. D’Hanis with 10 starters back on both sides of the ball may be among the most improved teams in the region.

District 15-2A Division II

  1. Falls City
  2. Three Rivers
  3. Yorktown
  4. Louise
  5. Pettus
  6. Charlotte

With Shiner’s move to 2A-Divison I, Falls City reascends to the top spot in the district as new head coach Will Kirchoff returns to his alma mater. The Beavers bring six back on both sides of the ball from an area round playoff team. Three Rivers with 10 starters back on offense and seven on defense expects to vastly improved and they could be dynamic with QB Paxton Soliz returning. Yorktown with six back on both sides of the ball gets the edge over Louise, which should be much-improved in Year 2 under head coach Cameron Murrah.

District 16-2A Division II

  1. Santa Maria
  2. La Villa
  3. Woodsboro
  4. Agua Dulce
  5. Ben Bolt
  6. Riviera-Kaufer

La Villa has dominated the far South Texas district over the past few years. The Cardinals have fallen back to the pack a bit and I’m not sure there’s still enough to hold off what we believe will be a much-improved Santa Maria squad that’s dropping down from Division I. Coach Gaytan returns eight starters on defense from a 7-4 Division I squad. Woodsboro, Agua Dulce and another vastly improved team, Ben Bolt, should contend for the district’s final two playoff slots.

PROJECTED BI-DISTRICT MATCHUPS

W13 Bremond vs F14 Brackettville

R16 La Villa vs T15 Yorktown

W14 Junction vs F13 Somerville

R15 Three Rivers vs T16 Woodsboro

W15 Falls City vs F16 Agua Dulce

R14 Harper vs T13 Burton

W16 Santa Maria vs F15 Louise

R13 Chilton vs T14 D’Hanis

I think we are on a collision course for a district rematch in the regional finals as Bremond and Chilton looked to be locked in for two meetings this year. Whoever finishes second in 13-2A Division II definitely has the tougher road as a possible third round meeting with Falls City awaits the runner-up ,which we project to be Chilton.
