Standout Underclassmen and Sleepers from The Opening Regional

DCTX's picks for top performances from sleepers and underclassmen at The Opening Regional in Dallas, including Carter Zingelmann, TK Gaines and James Foster III.

2029 WR Zach Williams (Allen)

Williams was not only one of the top underclassmen at the camp, but he was also one of the day’s best performers overall. Lightning quick in and out of his breaks, he already holds 20+ offers from Texas A&M, TCU, Florida, Oregon, Baylor, Ole Miss, Houston, Nebraska and more.

2028 S James Foster III (Lancaster)

Foster is a big-bodied safety who can really run. He has dominated camp after camp this offseason, proving he is one of the top defensive backs in Texas and nationally. Nearly every major program in the country has already offered.

2028 WR Jordan Anderson (Pflugerville Weiss)

Anderson may have flown a bit under the radar coming out of the camp, but he was steady from start to finish. He is a smooth route runner who creates separation deep and on intermediate routes.

2027 DB Kingston Thornton (Dallas Parish Episcopal)

Thornton turned in a strong showing during one-on-ones, using his length to consistently disrupt receivers and challenge quarterbacks trying to fit throws into tight windows. Following the performance, he earned DCTX three-star status in 2027. TCU, Duke, Baylor, SMU, Colorado and more have offered.

2027 WR Kollin Heath (Royse City)

Heath carried momentum into the camp after several strong recent 7-on-7 performances with Royse City and backed it up with a 3.99 pro shuttle, one of the nation’s best times. Combined with 1,000+ receiving yards and 14 touchdowns, his stock continues to rise.

2028 CB Dominic Butler (Allen)

Butler has emerged as one of DFW’s top cover corners, but the testing numbers will elevate his profile even more. He ran a 4.40 40-yard dash, making him one of the camp’s fastest players. Houston, Florida, Arizona State, North Carolina, Wisconsin and more have offered, with more likely coming after a strong camp season.

2029 CB Braylen Cunningham (North Crowley)

Cunningham landed among the camp’s Top 5 overall performers thanks to the best play of the day during one-on-ones. He constantly jumped into reps to compete against top receivers. Ohio State, SMU, Texas A&M, TCU, Colorado, Texas Tech, Penn State and more have already offered.

2029 LB Raiden Johnson (Allen)

Johnson has been one of the offseason’s biggest risers, flashing a physical presence and strong frame throughout the spring. At this camp, he also showed he can hold up well in coverage, reinforcing his high long-term upside. Alabama, SMU, Washington, North Carolina and more have offered.

2028 DB Brayden Arnold (Duncanville)

Arnold impacts the game in multiple ways in pads, but he continues to settle in nicely at defensive back during camp season and delivered another strong performance in coverage. SMU, Houston, Oregon, Baylor, Penn State, USC, TCU, Colorado and more have offered.

2027 QB/ATH Julian Reese II (Amarillo Palo Duro)

Reese is a tremendous overall athlete, but camp season has helped prove he has legitimate quarterback ability at the next level. Sunday may have been his best showing yet as he flashed impressive arm talent and delivered several strong throws.

2028 QB Carter Zingelmann (Coppell)

At 6-foot-5 with athletic upside, the DCTX four-star is already regarded as one of the top quarterbacks in the class. He continues to impress with his accuracy in the short and intermediate passing game, checking every box.

2028 RB Jayshawn Mitchell (San Antonio Brennan)

Mitchell earned Fastest Man honors after posting a 4.40 laser-timed 40-yard dash and winning the event’s sprint competition. The speedster already holds offers from SMU, Texas Tech, TCU, Kansas State and more.

2028 ATH Dylan Belt (Dallas Christian)

Belt earned early offers from Houston, UTEP and Kansas State primarily off his receiver film, but he impressed at defensive back during camp. He showed strong ball skills and played under control throughout the day. More offers will come (on both sides of the ball).

2029 WR Braelyn Allen (San Antonio Johnson)

Texas high school football fans should get familiar with Allen’s name. He already posted a 1,200-yard freshman season and has consistently been one of the top performers at camps this offseason. He has the upside to become one of the nation’s top recruits.

2028 WR Jaden Hurndon (Longview)

Hurndon entered the camp fresh off an offer from Texas and used his large catch radius to shine during one-on-ones. One of East Texas’ top prospects is closing in on 20 total offers.

2028 QB TK Gaines (Waller)

Gaines flashed serious arm talent and delivered some of the camp’s best deep balls, consistently putting the football on target downfield. Combined with his athletic ability at quarterback, the skill set makes him one of the state’s more intriguing prospects. He holds offers from SMU, TCU, Texas Tech, Florida, Michigan, Oklahoma State and more.
