AUSTIN -- Sheldon C.E. King sophomore superstar Dillon Mitchell closed out the track season heard around Texas with a 9.92 100M dash, winning the Class 6A Gold Medal.
Mitchell became a household name last fall by earning Newcomer of the Year in the toughest district in Texas, compiling 1,800 all-purpose yards and helping C.E. King improve from 5-5 to 13-3. But his spring track season has launched him into a different stratosphere of fame. The 16-year-old set the Under-18 world record in the 60M sprint with a 6.61 at the US Indoor Track and Field Championships. He also recorded a 9.88 100M dash, the third-fastest all-conditions time in US High School history.
Mitchell becomes the second member of his family to win a UIL State Track and Field Gold Medal. His brother, Texas State defensive back Will Mitchell II, won gold at Fort Bend Marshall in 2024. Read our feature story from this week on how Dillon's family built him into the athlete - and man - he is today.
