Eaton was more competitive than its 3-7 record indicates. The Eagles lost five of their games by a combined 16 points. Case in point, the last three games of the season were a one-point loss to Euless Trinity, a five-point loss to Keller Timber Creek, and a three-point loss to Keller.
But Coach Ellis Miller says the sour taste in his team’s mouth has turned into a hunger for revenge this offseason. This will be the most athletic team he has had in the past four years. The Eagles have nine starters back on offense, with help from a 7-3 JV team. Meanwhile, the new District 4-6A opened up with the loss of perennial playoff team Euless Trinity. If the team can adapt to two new coordinators during the non-district slate, these Eagles could soar to a playoff spot.
Katy Taylor went 0-10 in Coach Chris Babin’s first year at the helm. But peek under the hood, and you’ll see that these Mustangs have some horsepower coming up the ranks. Both the JV A and Freshman A teams went 7-3. Babin says that those players moving to varsity, combined with a second offseason in the new system, have led to a major culture shift.
Babin says the offensive line is by far the team’s biggest strength, fitting for a blue-collar school like Katy Taylor. The Mustangs are massive up front with C Zach Berman (6-foot, 280), Andreis Dreyer (6-foot-1, 240), Juan Reyes (6-foot, 285), CJ Hylton (6-foot-3, 340), and Julian Rodriguez (6-foot-1, 280).
After experiencing their deepest playoff run since 1985 two years ago, East Central had a rebuilding 3-7 season in 2025. But Coach Joe Hubbard says his Hornets can flat out fly on defense. Senior LB Trumaine Ellison (57 tackles, seven TFL) is a physical specimen at 6-foot-2, 230 pounds with a 4.5 40-yard dash. Both he and fellow senior LB Gabriel Chavarria (105 tackles, five sacks) and S Raymond Gloria (83 tackles, three INTs, two forced fumbles) earned Second Team All-District honors.
The offense, which averaged 17.6 points per game in 2025, has a chance to improve with help from a 7-3 JV team and QB Sloan Guillory at the helm. Don’t get us wrong, last year’s QB Jay Reed Crosby, a Chadron State signee, had a great year with Second Team All-District honors. But Guillory has an intriguing blend of size (6-foot-4, 225) and production (1,700 yards and 15 touchdowns at San Antonio Christian High School).
