Corpus Christi Ray Hires Veteran with 13 Years of Head Coaching Experience

Former Lockhart and Marble Falls head coach Brian Herman has been named the new head football coach at Corpus Christi Ray.

Corpus Christi ISD made it official on Thursday by hiring Georgetown assistant head coach Brian Herman as the next head football coach at Corpus Christi Ray.

Herman replaces Craig Charlton, who announced his retirement in November after leading the Texans for 11 seasons.

Herman has 13 seasons of head coaching experience. He most recently was the head coach at Marble Falls from 2019-2023, included in that run was a 9-4 mark in 2021, which was the Mustangs' last season as a 5A program.

“I am blessed and thankful to get the opportunity to do what I love in such a special place with amazing support from superintendent Dr. Roland Hernandez, principal Roxanne Cuevas and athletic director Kevin Hendrickson," Herman said. "I am excited to take what I have learned through the years to develop something NEW and CREATIVE."

He led Eustace for two seasons in 2011 and 2012. He led the long-struggling Bulldogs to a 10-2 mark in his first year, just their fourth season of double digit wins in school history.

Herman led Lockhart from 2013-2018 leading the Lions to the area round of the playoffs in 2014 and 2015. Prior to becoming a head coach in 2011, Herman was a long-time staffer at Liberty Hill and he is one of the key components in the early development of Liberty Hill’s vaunted Slot-T offense.

Herman takes over a Ray squad that will remain as one of just two Corpus Christi area schools at the 5A-Division II level. The Texans are fresh off a 5-6 record and a playoff appearance and have high hopes to be even better in 2026.

"We will feature and fully utilize the dynamic skill set of QB Tripp Thompson, the 2025 District Offensive MVP as well as the explosive versatility of RB Brian McCullum," he said. "It won’t be a boring three yards and a cloud of dust, but we will be PHYSICAL and we will be EXCITING! GO TEXANS”
