Here’s some news and notes from the final day of action at the UIL State Football Championships:

- South Oak Cliff averaged 7.5 yards per carry in the running game.
- Richmond Randle’s 31-game winning streak ended as the Lions make the moves to Class 5A-Division I in the February UIL realignment.
Galena Park North Shore 10, Duncanville 7
- North Shore head coach and alum Willie Gaston wins his first state title as a head coach.
- This game was scoreless until Kaleb Maryland connected with Jaylen Bocard for a 44-yard touchdown with 4:12 left in the third quarter.

DeSoto 55, Sheldon King 27
- Hours after South Oak Cliff head coach Jason Todd became the first black head coach to win three UIL state championships, DeSoto head coach Claude Mathis joined him.
- DeSoto raced out to a 27-0 lead after one quarter, in their 2022 state title win over Humble Summer Creek the Eagles led 36-7 after one quarter.
- It’s DeSoto’s third state title in four years, this one is even more impressive considering DeSoto opted up to Class 6A in February 2024 as they had an enrollment that placed them in Class 5A.
- Sheldon King in their first state title appearance settled down after the disasterous first quarter, but the Panthers dug themselves too big of a hole.
- DeSoto WR Ethan “Boobie” Feaster in his final high school game earned offensive MVP honors with ten catches for 167 yards and two touchdowns.
- The win for DeSoto secured a Dallas area victory over the Greater Houston area on Saturday in the three games that pitted the state’s two largest metro areas.
- DeSoto again submitted a Class 5A enrollment to the UIL for February’s realignment, the district hasn’t made public a final decision on if they will play where their enrollment lies or if they will opt up to Class 6A much like they did in the previous realignment.
2025 UIL State attendance saw a 20.31% increase from the 2024 attendance numbers, with a total attendance for the weekend of 191,815. Although the UIL’s contract with AT&T Stadium ends this year, the smart money is on the state games returning to Arlington and AT&T Stadium in 2026.
