Spring football is on the horizon for the 13 FBS programs in the state of Texas. That means it is time to shift focus forward and rank the 10 best players at each position across the state, continuing with wide receivers and tight ends.
The Lone Star State sent 10 programs to bowl games and two to the College Football Playoff as only Rice, UTEP, and Houston missed out on the postseason after the 2024 season. The 2025 season looks like another big year for the Great State because of the returning talent and added star power from the transfer portal.
1. Caleb Douglas, Texas Tech
2024 recap: 60 catches, 877 yards, 6 TD
The former Florida Gator was the second leading receiver for the Red Raiders in his first season at Texas Tech. He’ll get a chance for even more production in 2025 because Josh Kelly – last season’s leading receiver – is off to the NFL. The 6-4, 205-pound Douglas is a Fort Bend Hightower product who could catapult into draft talks with a big senior season on The Plains.
2. Josh Cameron, Baylor
2024 recap: 52 catches, 754 yards, 10 TD
The former walk-on was tied for 13th in the nation with 10 touchdown receptions last season and is one of the more underrated weapons in the Big 12, much less the Lone Star State. The Cedar Park native wears an unconventional number for a wide receiver (34), but it does a great job of illustrating Cameron’s playing style. The 218-pounder is aggressive after the catch and one of the best punt returners in the country.
3. KC Concepcion, Texas A&M
2024 recap: 48 catches, 420 yards, 6 TD (NC State)
The Aggies needed an upgrade at wide receiver and the hope is that Concepcion can help unlock the passing game in College Station. He was excellent last year at North Carolina State and should immediately add some big-play potential on the outside. He’ll be a reliable target for Marcel Reed and should slot in well with Terry Bussey and fellow transfer Mario Craver. We’ll see what happens with Micah Hudson. Noah Thomas transferred to Georgia.
4. DeAndre Moore Jr., Texas
2024 recap: 39 catches, 456 yards, 7 TD
Moore flew under the radar as a recruit as the Longhorns signed highly coveted five-star prospects at the position such as Johntay Cook and Ryan Wingo, but it was Moore who emerged amongst a group of transfers such as Isaiah Bond and Matthew Golden as one of the top targets for Quinn Ewers. Moore is a playmaker who seems to have a knack for scoring touchdowns. He’s in for a big season in 2025 with Arch Manning at the helm.
5. Coy Eakin, Texas Tech
2024 recap: 49 catches, 652 yards, 7 TD
“Cowboy” Coy Eakin is a fan favorite in West Texas. He set records and won state championships at Stephenville, committing to Texas Tech late in the recruiting process thanks to an offer from the newly appointed Joey McGuire. Eakin is a true success story for the Red Raiders, emerging as one of the top targets in the Big 12 when healthy. He’s battled through numerous injuries to become a productive weapon.
6. RJ Maryland, SMU
2024 recap: 24 catches, 359 yards, 4 TD
The lone tight end on the list as many of the in-state schools are searching for new faces at the position. Maryland missed much of SMU’s march to the College Football Playoff after sustaining a season-ending injury during the seventh game of the season. He was the Ponies’ second leading receiver in 2023 and was a favorite target of quarterback Kevin Jennings before that injury.
