Big Game Prediction: Winnsboro (12-0) vs. Malakoff (13-0)

Kyler Finney leads the Winnsboro Red Raiders against Chauncey Hogg, Mike Jones and the Malakoff Tigers in the 2023 Texas High School Football Playoffs.

Winnsboro (12-0) vs. Malakoff (13-0), 7:30 p.m. Friday at Forney’s City Bank Stadium: The game most have been waiting for in Region II is here as the two top 3A-Division I teams in East Texas meet up in a battle of unbeatens that should be epic.

Both offenses come into this one clicking on all cylinders after lopsided regional semifinal wins.

Winnsboro blasted Whitney 72-17 last week; their second straight game scoring at least 70-points. WHS put up 45 first-half points in the win as QB Kyler Finney threw for 340 yards and a pair of scores and he added 71 rushing yards and a touchdown to pace the Red Raiders attack.

Winnsboro rolled up an impressive 710 yards of offense on the afternoon.

Malakoff handled an outstanding Grandview squad with relative ease for the second time this year as the Tigers rolled to a 42-7 win. RB/DB Chauncey Hogg was huge on both sides of the ball in the win as he ran for 110 yards and three touchdowns, while also getting an interception on defense. QB/DB Mike Jones threw for 134 yards and a touchdown; he ran for 84 yards and a touchdown, and he also tallied an interception on defense.

Malakoff eliminated Winnsboro from the playoffs a year ago in the area round. Both teams are much improved this year. Expect an absolute classic out in Forney with the edge going to Malakoff on the strength of its defense and overall team speed.
