Stepp's 2023 Class 2A Division II Region IV Outlook: Projecting district finishes, bi-district matchups and regional champs!
The 2023 Texas high school football 2A Division II Region IV Outlook, projecting district finishes, bi-district matchups and regional champs with teams like Burton, Chilton, Granger, Falls City and Bremond!!

REGIONAL OUTLOOK

Burton and Chilton were the two top teams in Region IV a year ago and their third-round battle ended up a 7-0 win for Burton on a cold Black Friday night in Bryan. With both teams returning 14 starters, the odds are these two could have another Thanksgiving Weekend showdown in 2023.

Chilton and Granger battled it out for the 13-2A Division II crown a year ago and those two should be the top two teams once again. But with Granger getting hit hard by graduation, the gap between Chilton and the field has widened. Bremond looks to have passed Granger up, but an offseason transfer of its top player is a big loss for the Tigers giving GHS the slight edge for the second place spot.

Defending regional champion Burton is back with a veteran squad and enter as the favorites again in 2023, but district rival Falls City, which fell to Burton by just a single point in district play, is going to be a factor. Somerville and Yorktown are good bets to get back into the playoffs, holding off Snook, which will be on the outside looking in. Runge, one of the state’s smallest 11-man programs, is playing its final season in 2A before dropping to six-man ball in 2024.

Sabinal was one of the real surprise stories in 2022 posting 11 wins and pushing Falls City in the area playoffs, but the ‘Jackets graduated a stout senior class. They should still have enough to hold off Brackettville and always feisty Rocksprings to bring home the district title. D’Hanis is the consensus pick for the final playoff spot over what should be an improved La Pryor squad.

16-2A Division II is only playing for seeding as all four teams in the district are already in the postseason. Every team in the district should be improved on paper, but can anyone get out of the first round? Bruni is the favorite despite the coaching change, while Woodsboro will be the Badgers top challenger.
