Duncanville 2024 S Ka'Davion Dotson (6'0, 180) helped lead the Panthers to a 6A Division I state championship in 2022.
"We had to get us one this year," Dotson said. "We had the dogs. We had the coaches to do it. So we got it done for Coach Samp."
"It was crazy. It was full of emotions, just knowing we finally got it for our Coach Samp, he's like our godfather, and he is like a dad to us. We had to get it for him."
Dotson has secured 33 scholarship offers, including TCU, Texas, Arkansas, LSU, Oregon, and Tennessee.
"Just blessed to be in that position to have that many offers," Dotson said. "There are a lot of people out here who want to be me, so I just got to keep grinding and know the position I'm in and don't take it for granted."
To this point, Dotson has not named any favorites, but a cutdown list is coming soon.
"Just knowing what programs can benefit you the most," Dotson said. "I feel like I know about 10 programs that can benefit me the most. I am looking to narrow down my list to a Top 10 soon, and I'm looking to commit midseason."
LSU is a school that he has taken multiple visits to, and the Tigers will be a factor in the race for Dotson's signature.
"DBU," Dotson pointed out. "I mean, why not. That's how I feel about it. I have been there multiple times. I just love the Louisiana culture. It's different. I went to the Southern Louisiana game and that game was so packed, and that just shows you the vibe around the school."
Closer to home, TCU played for a national title in 2022, which has opened many eyes in the DFW.
"Just knowing Coach (Paul) Gonzales and what type of guy he is," Dotson said of his interest in the Horned Frogs. "He has been at TCU for a while. He's a great guy and produces great safeties."
Arizona State has quickly become a factor at Duncanville because of WR coach Ra'Shaad Samples, who is the son of Duncanville head coach Reginald Samples.
" I got to go check it out," Dotson said. "Coach Samp (Ra'Shaad Samples) and them are great guys, Coach (Bryan) Carrington."
Dotson hopes to visit Cincinnati, Tennessee, Alabama and LSU this spring/summer.
Texas is another in-state school that is pushing hard for his signature.
So what is going to be the four-star's deciding factor?
"Relationships," Dotson said. "Just knowing that I'm being coached by guys that are trying to see the best in me every day. If I'm playing there, then for the next four years I am trying to get to the next level, so I gotta feel great about my coaches."
Dotson checks in at No. 37 in the DCTF Rising 2024 Hot 100.
