Former Oklahoma State All-American Rashaun Woods will become the next head coach at Tyler High School, pending board approval, sources confirmed to Dave Campbell's Texas Football. The move — specifically Woods' resignation from his job at Enid High School in Oklahoma — was first reported by The Enid News.
Woods replaces John Tyler alum Ricklan Holmes, who resigned his post in early December after an 11-year run leading the Lions.
In an ironic twist, Woods — like his predecessor Holmes — played collegiately at Oklahoma State. He was a two-time All-American receiver and he still holds several school and Big 12 records. After a brief stint in the NFL and the CFL Woods, became a high school coach in his native Oklahoma City.
After several seasons as an assistant, Woods got his shot to be a head coach in 2013 at Oklahoma City Marshall High School. In six seasons leading OKC Marshall, Woods’ teams posted a 55-18 record winning a Class 3A state title in 2017.
In 2019, Woods moved over to Enid High School, who plays in Class 6A in Oklahoma, but has an enrollment comparable to a 5A-Division I school in Texas. In four seasons at Enid – from which he resigned on Friday – Woods recorded a 12-31 record. However his teams have shown steady improvement since he took over. Enid was 0-10 in his first season and had one just a single game the year before his arrival and in 2022. Enid posted a 6-6 mark and earned a win in the Oklahoma 6A playoffs.
