I’d be remissed if I didn’t start this off by mentioning how R.R. Jones Stadium lives up to all of the hype. Our trip to El Paso was centered around seeing the historic stadium and it’s honestly impressive how much was still surprising to see after all of the photos and build-up.
Another streak came crashing down Friday night as Luling snapped a 30-game losing streak against Weimar, 17-7, in the first win under new head coach Nate Langford the former defensive coordinator at Seguin. It’s the Eagles’ first win since 2017.
Spring Westfield topples No. 4 North Shore
Despite being outgained in total offense, Spring Westfield bested Galena Park North Shore, 27-21 Friday night. It was Westfield’s sixth win over the rival Mustangs over the last nine meetings.
It was also only the second regular season loss for North Shore in four years, the last since 2019 against Katy.
Three Players
Rockwall gunslinger Braedyn Locke torched Lake Travis with over 500 yards passing and five touchdowns in a 56-35 win on 28-of-42 pass attempts.
Not to be outdone in an early Mr. Texas Football race, Bridgeland QB Conner Weigman tallied 452 yards and four touchdowns passing in the No. 19 Bears’ win over The Woodlands, 39-35. The A&M commit had over 300 yards in the first quarter of play. He added 103 yards on the ground.
Katy Paetow senior running back Jacob Brown finished with over 270 yards rushing in a big win over Richmond Foster, 30-14.
Three Plays
You don’t get many chances at a touchdown run of over 100 yards. Lehman’s Tanner Johnson had one of 102 vs Austin High Thursday night.
One more from Bridgeland and The Woodlands. How about Graham Gillespie’s DIVING interception with the Bears holding on to the lead in the second quarter?
