Round Rock Stony Point Wins 2009 FOX Sports Southwest 7-on-7 State Championship

Round Rock Stony Point's John Howell intercepted a pass in his end zone and returned it for a touchdown in a 33-31 win over Cypress Fairbanks at the Fox Sport Southwest 7-on-7 Division I championship game Saturday.

COLLEGE STATION - Round Rock Stony Point's John Howell intercepted a pass in his end zone and returned it for a touchdown in a 33-31 win over Cypress Fairbanks at the Fox Sport Southwest 7-on-7 Division I championship game Saturday. 

Cy-Fair was within three yards of a clinching touchdown when Howell reached out with his left hand to intercept the pass, then outran quarterback Blake Reese to the left sideline for the 45-yard score. Stony Point had taken a 26-25 lead on a 45-yard touchdown pass from Aaryn Sharp to Stephen Williams. Williams, who was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player, caught two second-half touchdowns. 

Cy-Fair regained a 31-26 lead when Jacob Koch caught a touchdown pass, Reese's fifth scoring throw of the day. 

In the consolation final, senior quarterback Mark Benninger threw five touchdown passes to his twin brother Brett and Houston Stratford went on to a 52-27 win over Pearland. Stratford wrapped up the win with an interception return for a touchdown by A.J. Justice.
