Melissa wins Division II FOX Sports Southwest 7-on-7 State Championship

Melissa quarterback Wes McQueen hit a wide-open Brad Bush for the game-winning touchdown to give the Cardinals a 27-20 win over Houston Kinkaid in the FOX Sports Southwest 7-on-7 State Championship game Friday at Kyle Field.

COLLEGE STATION - Melissa quarterback Wes McQueen hit a wide-open Brad Bush for the game-winning touchdown to give the Cardinals a 27-20 win over Houston Kinkaid in the FOX Sports Southwest 7-on-7 State Championship game Friday at Kyle Field. 

McQueen, who was named Most Valuable Player, found Bush for a key first down and Bush worked his way wide open on the left side to make the tie-breaking touchdown reception. 

McQueen threw two touchdowns to Mason Hart. 

The Kinkaid School, which was bidding to become the first private school to win the championship, took a 14-13 lead at halftime. Ford Childress threw to Jacob Matthews for a late first-half touchdown. 

Childress' touchdown throw to Sam Eggleston tied the game at 20-20. 

In the consolation final, Gatesville quarterback Cole Edminston threw two touchdown passes to Tyler Jaynes to lead the Hornets to a 34-15 win over Whitney. 

Gatesville's Cort Dixon had two of his team's three interceptions.
