Quarterback Drew Tate Leads Baytown Lee Over Austin Bowie

Baytown Lee edged out Austin Bowie, 34-32, in the championship game of the Fox Sports Net 7-on-7 high school football state championship on Saturday at Texas A&M's Kyle Field.

COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Baytown Lee edged out Austin Bowie, 34-32, in the championship game of the Fox Sports Net 7-on-7 high school football state championship on Saturday at Texas A&M's Kyle Field. 

Baytown Lee led 27-18 at halftime. Bowie's Ty Branyon threw for two second-half touchdowns to close the gap, but Bowie missed on several two-point conversions. 

Junior quarterback Drew Tate led Baytown Lee (7-1) past McKinney, 40-31, in the first round and kick-started a strong run to the finals. Lee beat Cy-Fair, 40-28, in the second round, then downed Gladewater, 40-25, and Keller, 48-34, to set up the meeting with Bowie. 

Abilene Cooper captured the Consolation bracket by defeating Creekview, 34-32. Cooper was the runner-up in last year's championship final. 

Celina, last year's champion, lost to Cooper, 27-21, in the second round of the consolation bracket.
