UTSA football announced that it will face off against Stephen F. Austin in its home opener on Sept. 19 at the Alamodome. The game will serve as Jeff Traylor's home debut.
SFA marks the third nonconference opponent on UTSA's schedule, joining Texas State and Memphis. Grambling State previously was set to serve as an FCS nonconference opponent for the Roadrunners, but pulled out when the SWAC postponed all competition.
Lumberjacks athletic director Ryan Ivey noted to Texas Football that SFA hopes to play between five and nine games in fall 2020, including several against FBS programs. UTSA is just the second game on the schedule at this point, along with AAC opponent SMU. However, other agreements are on the table.
Traylor has deep ties to one of East Texas' most notable institutions. Traylor earned both his undergraduate and graduate degrees from SFA.
With the addition, UTSA is up to 10 official games. Stadium's Brett McMurphy reported that the Roadrunners will also face off against BYU on Oct. 10, but the game has not been confirmed at this time. The 12th game would have been against Old Dominion, but the Monarchs chose to cancel all fall sports.
