Big 12 moving ahead with fall football, releases 2020 schedule

The Big 12 Conference has opted to move forward with fall football and released a "9+1" 2020 schedule.

Days after the Pac-12 and Big Ten decided to cancel fall football and push it to the spring, the Big 12 has doubled down on playing in the fall.

The Big 12 released its revised 2020 schedule on Wednesday, featuring the 9+1 schedule approved a week ago. At this point, all indications are pointing to the Big 12 trying everything to play games.

"Ultimately, our student-athletes have indicated their desire to compete in the sports they love this seaosn and it is up to all of us to deliver a safe, medically sound, and structured academic and athletic environment for accomplishing that outcome," said Big 12 commissioner Bob Bowlsby in a statement.

All nonconference games must be completed before Sept. 26, when the Big 12 schedule begins. Most schools have circled Sept. 12 as a presumptive date. The Big 12 title game is set for Dec. 12 – a week later than usual – but could push as far as Dec. 19 if necessary.

Big 12 football teams will undergo three COVID-19 tests per week as part of protocols. Players who return to the field after positive tests must also undergo heart testing.
