Ryan McDonald is one of those young men who people say is wise beyond his years.

But while that’s certainly a compliment, gaining that wisdom never comes easy. This has been the case for Ryan, a senior at Klein High School. Losing his dad five years ago was tough enough, but he also happens to be the primary caregiver for his mom who suffered a stroke.

Yeah, Ryan has more going on than most seniors in high school who are usually focused on prom and college acceptance letters and little else.

“Ryan is a fine young man of great character and discipline,” Klein High School head coach Shane Hallmark said. “He has had to take on the responsibilities that most men don’t deal with until they at least reach their late 20s. He’s a team player who is extremely unselfish with his time and energy. We have all become better just by knowing him, which to me has been a blessing.”

High praise indeed and well deserved. It’s why Dave Campbell’s Texas Football named him as one of our Unsung Heroes this season. And thanks to Texas Farm Bureau Insurance Ryan will receive a little extra help with college expenses.

A member of the National Honor Society and a finalist for the Touchdown Club of Houston Scholar of the Year, Ryan ranks in the top 10 percent in his graduating class. Juggling schoolwork, football and his daily care for his mom is an amazing feat.
