Throwback Thursday: Class of 2016 TXHSFB Top 50

A closer look at the Class of 2016 recruiting rankings.

Big Hits: OT Greg Little and DT Ed Oliver

Two of the top five highest-rated prospects in the cycle are already in the NFL. Little was named as an ALL-SEC selection at Ole Miss before going on to be selected in the second round by the Carolina Panthers. The rookie recently won the starting left tackle job in Carolina before being sidelined with a concussion. Oliver was the highest-rated prospect to ever sign with Houston and went on to become the ninth overall pick in the NFL Draft by the Buffalo Bills.

Big Misses:  DT Kendell Jones & WR Denzel Mims

Heading into the 2019 season, former Manvel three-star ATH D'eriq King may have been the first name mentioned as underrated, but lets hit pause on that for now.

Jones helped lead one of the most dominating defenses in the state at Killeen Shoemaker but fell off the football map after leaving Alabama to attend a junior college. Mims is climbing up some of the all-time receiving lists at Baylor and has played all four years. He is the battle to be recognized as the Big 12's best alongside names like Tylan Wallace and Ceedee Lamb.

Interesting Facts:

The two highest-rated quarterbacks were Jalen Hurts and Shane Buechele, who both transferred from their original school to help lead their current teams to undefeated records. Hurts is in the thick of the Heisman race at Oklahoma. Buechele has helped lead a significant turnaround at SMU, and the Mustangs are 5-0 for the first time since 1933.

Texas A&M's DL Justin Madubuike is coming off of his best game of the year and his name is being tossed around as a potential first-round NFL pick.

TE Kaden Smith, WR Lil'Jordan Humphrey, and RB Trayveon Williams are all already on NFL rosters.
