Texas football may not be back as yet, but athletic director Chris Del Conte is ensuring that the game day atmosphere returns to Mack Brown levels quickly.

The Austin American Statesman's Brian Davis detailed many of the exciting new additions that Del Conte is implementing on the 40 Acres, which should start this weekend in the opener against Tulsa.

Texas will introduce a plethora of new ideas, including a pre-game concert, player walk through into the stadium and a new "Bevo Boulevard," which will essentially be a pre-game party street for everyone to gather in before the game. There will also be opportunity for interaction with former Texas greats.

Parts of the plan are modeled on Frog Alley at TCU, where Del Conte worked for nearly a decade.

In addition to the weekly concert – featuring Grammy-winning musician Jimmy Vaughn on Saturday – there will be numerous food trucks on Bevo Boulevard, and vendors selling alcohol. Food prices inside the stadium will also

Access to Bevo Boulevard does not require a ticket, so anyone can come in and partake in the pre-game activities outside of Darrell K. Royal Memorial Stadium. There will be game day activities on campus that last until midnight.

Of course, there will be logistical issues with a stadium of more than 100,000 that Del Conte didn’t have to deal with at TCU. It will be a learning process.

“We’re rolling this out and I’m super excited,” Del Conte told the Statesman. “We’re going to have some mishaps, and people are going to take me to the woodshed. But the goal is to try something awesome, and it’s going to take us two or three years to truly perfect it.”

But regardless, it’s a strong statement from Del Conte to focus on game day atmosphere. Crowds at Texas have fallen from more than 100,000 to around 89,000 per game in recent years, per the Daily Texan. A shot in the arm might be just what it takes to attract people to the venue.
