Sources confirmed to Dave Campbell's that Howard Payne offensive coordinator Brad Wilson is leaving the Yellow Jackets for an opportunity to serve as the quarterbacks coach with an FCS program out of state. Wilson arrived in Brownwood in January 2023 after spending the 2022 campaign as the assistant head coach and offensive coordinator at Sul Ross State.

Wilson continued HPU’s offensive success during his lone season with the program. The Yellow Jackets produced 34.4 points per game while gaining 4,591 total yards and 46 touchdowns, which propelled HPU to a 6-4 overall record and a 3-3 mark in the American Southwest Conference.

Wilson's tenure at SRSU was marked by his ability to develop a dynamic passing offense. Under his guidance, the Lobos achieved an ASC-best 2,716 yards passing in 2022. His coaching consistently elevated SRSU’s offense, which ranked first or second in six different ASC offensive categories.

Before his role at SRSU, Wilson served as the offensive coordinator at East Texas Baptist for two seasons. During his tenure, he led the Tigers to the second-best passing offense in the ASC, averaging 267.8 yards per contest.

Prior to his role at ETBU, Wilson had a successful three-year stint at Navarro. As the assistant head coach and offensive coordinator, he led the team to numerous achievements. His coaching led to 11 players transitioning to NCAA Division I, and he guided Navarro to the program's first SWJCFC championship in 2012. His offensive strategies helped produce the No. 1 ranked total offense, yards per game, and passing offense in NJCAA in 2017.

The Snyder native began his coaching career as a graduate and student assistant with HPU, working with running backs, wide receivers, and quarterbacks for three seasons. He has also worked with Air It Out Passing Camp athletes for five years.
