North Texas went through practices last year with just 43 players with the biggest hits coming on defense. With a clean bill of health and a new leader, Seth Littrell is optimistic that things can change quickly.
Mean Joe Green. Scrappy. The Mean Green Machine. Jack Sisco. Hayden Fry. Boomer the Cannon. Odus Mithcell. Abner Haynes. Spiriki. Ray Renfro. Richard Gill. This is North Texas football.
North Texas State Normal College played its first game in 1913, led by J.W. Pender in a 13-0 loss to TCU. Since then, the program has been blessed with some terrific runs by tremendous coaches from J.W. St. Clair (.656 winning percentage from 1915-19) to Sisco (.653 from 1929-41) to Fry (.629 from 1973-78). Perhaps no one epitomizes the program, though, more than Mean Joe Green, one of the greatest players to ever play the game at any level.
