Hutto was a busy stop in the winter evaluation period due to four-star quarterback Will Hammond and a host of other prospects, including Alex Green. The Hippos are no strangers to pumping out FBS talent and the 2024 class is no different. Head coach Will Compton believes there is enough talent in his locker room to push for district and playoff success.

CLASS OF 2024

QB Will Hammond (6-2.5, 186): Hammond is the unquestioned leader of the Hippos and head coach Will Compton’s luxury is that his best player is also his hardest worker. That suits a Texas Tech commit perfectly because Joey McGuire has branded his Red Raiders as the “toughest, hardest working, most competitive team in the country.” Hammond possesses all those traits, as well as an arm capable of making every throw in the passing tree. He also runs a 4.56 40-yard dash and is more athletic than given credit for.

Hammond is a four-star prospect on the DCTF Hot 100, checking in as the 32nd-ranked player in Texas and the third-best quarterback on the list. He boasts an offer list that includes Oregon, Auburn, and Texas A&M. Hammond says he’ll only visit Texas Tech during the process and is excited to play in the offensive system orchestrated by Red Raiders’ offensive coordinator Zach Kittley.

WR Alex Green (6-0, 174): Green has benefitted from the attention heaped upon his quarterback and best friend, Will Hammond. He reports that nearly a dozen schools have approached him during the open period with interest, including Texas Tech, Tennessee, and Mary Hardin-Baylor. Green has a visit to Tennessee lined up in the spring. The wiry wide out runs a 4.56 and posts a Pro Agility of 4.61. Expect his offer list to grow during the spring evaluation period. Green has a great catch radius and is a deep threat.

OL Preston Huneycutt (6-3, 231): A self-described “dog”, Huneycutt makes up for a lack of weight with a mentality built for the trenches. He has plenty of room to fill out his 6-3 frame and projects to as interior offensive lineman at the next level. Fellow teammates and coaches raved about his work ethic and love of football. He squats 390 and dead lifts an impressive 425 pounds. He needs to improve his upper body strength and add weight to his frame, but he moves well and possesses good feet.

DS Tristan Compton (6-1, 230): Specialty players often go overlooked in the recruiting process, but Compton is one of the best deep snappers in Texas and he’s proved that at recent camps. Compton is the son of Hutto’s head coach and also plays defensive line for the Hippos.

Other Names to Know: RB Darien Choice (5-4, 158), DB Steven Galindo (5-11, 146), OL/DL Kaleb Hopson (6-0, 295), WR/DB/LS Carson LaPlante (5-10, 157), WR Devin McMarrion (5-11, 155), DL Phillip Obiesie (6-1, 251), OL Juan Rodriguez (5-10, 264), DL Christopher Smith (6-3, 251), K Gabriel Smith (5-9, 208), LB/H Tyrese Hargrove (5-10, 230), OL Jamarion Whitley, DE Collin Wilson (6-1, 200)

CLASS OF 2025

S Cashton LaPlante (6-2, 180): LaPlante is a coach’s kid that lives and breathes football. He possesses a high football IQ who clearly studies tape and has a knack of showing up around the football on tape. He dealt with an injury as a sophomore, but everyone in the Hutto locker room expects an all-district season from the long, lean safety who posted an 8’11” broad jump. LaPlante wants to improve his speed to the ball and continue to evolve as a tackler during his upperclassman seasons.

Other Names to Know: DL/OL Grayson Armstrong (6-1, 247), WR/DB Braeton Anderson (5-8, 146), OL Cutter Lee, WR/DB Cameron Banks (5-7, 151), WR/S Christopher Targete (5-11, 215), RB Andy Toddeh (5-7, 157)
