Back-to-back disappointing weeks are cutting into our winnings for the year, but Craven’s Corner remains open for business after a 3-6 Week 12. We’re 64-49-3 on the season, however, so we’re paying the bookies back with their own money. We take another crack at predicting every FBS game with a Lone Star State tie in the last edition of Craven’s Bets in 2022.
GAMES OF THE WEEK
Rice at North Texas
Viewing info: Saturday at 1 p.m. on ESPN+
Gambling lines: North Texas -14; O/U 60
North Texas needs a win over Rice to qualify for the C-USA championship game and earn a rematch against a UTSA team that beat the Mean Green in the final seconds of the first bout of the season. Seth Littrell’s team was idle in Week 12 and should be raring to go at home against a wounded Owls squad. Rice is beat up and limping to the finish line. The Owls need one more win to reach bowl eligibility, but injuries at quarterback and a leaky defense aren’t helping Mike Bloomgren’s program.
Craven’s wager: North Texas +14
Baylor at Texas
Viewing info: Friday at 11 a.m. on ESPN
Gambling lines: Texas -8.5; O/U 56
The difference between 7-5 and 8-4 feels larger than just one game for the Texas Longhorns. A win against Baylor keeps Texas’ hopes of reaching the Big 12 title game alive for at least one more day. A loss drops the Longhorns to 12-12 in the first two regular seasons under Steve Sarkisian. Baylor lost in heartbreaking fashion last week at home against TCU and are in danger of falling to .500 the season after winning the Big 12 crown.
Craven’s wager: Baylor +8.5
Texas Tech vs. Oklahoma
Viewing info: Saturday at 6:30 p.m. on FS1
Gambling lines: Oklahoma -2; O/U 64
Texas Tech hasn’t finished with a record of .500 or better in Big 12 play since 2009 – the last year of the Mike Leach era. A win over Oklahoma at home on Saturday night would put the Red Raiders at 5-4 in conference in year one under Joey McGuire. That’s despite starting three quarterbacks for at least four different games once Tyler Shough starts against the Sooners. A win would also give the Red Raiders home victories against Texas and Oklahoma in the same season for the first time in school history.
Craven’s wager: Texas Tech +2
