San Angelo Central (2-1) vs Amarillo Tascosa (2-1) at Buffalo Stadium: San Angelo Central takes the long trip up to the Texas Panhandle this week as they look to bounce back from their first loss of the season against a very talented Tascosa squad.

Central last week had no answers in a 45-13 blowout loss to Austin Vandegrift. RB Samuel Navarrette was the bright spot for the Bobcats, as he rushed for 116 yards and a touchdown run.

Central trailed 24-10 in the third quarter, but 19 straight Vandegrift points in the final frame put the game out of reach.

Tascosa bounced back from a tough loss to Midland Legacy in Week 2 with an impressive performance as the Rebels took down Odessa Permian 40-21. As always, Tascosa spread the ball around to a bevy of capable ball carriers with RB L’Travion Brown leading the team with 77 rushing yards a touchdown while running back Major Everhart had 76 yards from six carries. QB BT Daniel was efficient as well throwing for 129 yards and a touchdown.

Tascosa’s defense is really what makes this team a real threat come playoff time and playing basically a home just down the road at West Texas A&M. The Rebels should earn a real statement win to close out the non-district slate.

Victoria East (2-1, 1-0) at Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial (3-0, 1-0): It’s the second week of district play for district 15-5A Division I as Victoria East takes on sixth ranked Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial. We’ll be keeping an eye on the tropical weather out in the Gulf of Mexico to see if that bad weather has any impacts on this game. Victoria East had their offense rolling in their win over Corpus Christi Carroll as they went on to win 60-21. The game was close to start but the Titans soon pulled away. Quarterback Jadon Williams was the do-it-all man for Victoria as he passed for 261 yards and 5 touchdowns while running for 153 yards. The defense made it a no-fly zone as they forced four interceptions. Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial dominated CCISD rival Corpus Christi King last week as they blanked them 52-0. The Eagles put together a complete performance against the Mustangs. QB Elijah Durrette was the star for his team as he threw 16 of 22 for 206 yards and four touchdowns. WR Cameron DeLaPena was the main beneficiary as he caught seven receptions for 82 yards and three touchdowns. While both teams have played Alice, and Victoria had the bigger result, Veterans Memorial seems to have really found their footing after the shaky start. Victoria East will need to bring all their offensive might if they want to have any chance of keeping this one close. DCTF Intern Joshua Price’s pick: Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial by 28

Denison (2-0, 0-0) at Lovejoy (3-0, 1-0): It’s a battle of unbeaten teams as the 7-5A Division II title could be on the line as Denison heads south to Collin County to take on state-ranked Lovejoy. The ‘Jackets have had a week to prepare for the explosive Leopards as Denison had their bye last week in this nine-team district where the bye week rotates. First-year head coach Brent Whitson has a headliner in RB Jadarian Price, a Notre Dame commit, but this is a balanced squad with plenty of weapons across the board. Lovejoy comes into this one averaging over 61-points per game after the Leopards opened district play with a dominant 69-21 win over Princeton. WR Jaxson Lavender hauled in ten passes for 164 yards and three touchdowns for a Lovejoy passing attack that had three different receivers tally 90-yards receiving. Lovejoy rolled up 605 yards of offense on the night. These two have played some exciting shootouts over the past couple of years and Lovejoy has seemed to have Denison’s number, so don’t be surprised if this is another high-scoring affair. Stepp’s Pick: Lovejoy by 8
