Welcome to Inside the Numbers, a weekly look at Dave Campbell’s Texas Football’s comprehensive computer rankings. Each week, we take a deep dive into that week’s Texas high school football computer rankings to sort out the signal from the noise.

CLASS 6A

At The Top… While the top three remain unchanged, Southlake Carroll’s win over Denton Guyer certainly caught the computer’s attention, launching them up to No. 4. Allen re-enters the Top 10 at No. 9, as does Arlington Martin at No. 10. Of note: Katy Tompkins jumped six spots up to No. 23 with its narrow loss to Katy.

Lowest-Ranked Undefeated Team: No. 143 McAllen Rowe (5-0)

Highest-Ranked Winless Team: No. 117 Byron Nelson (0-5)

Fastest One-Week Riser: No. 133 Garland Naaman Forest (beat North Garland 42-18, up 47 spots from No. 180)

DIVISION I: Katy over Duncanville by 8 (last week: Katy over Duncanville by 14)

DIVISION II: Longview over Austin Westlake by 8 (last week: Longview over Westlake by 8)

CLASS 5A

At The Top… San Antonio Wagner continues to drub people, and they continue to rise as a result, up four spots to No. 7 in the DI rankings. The rest of the Division I rankings are pretty chalky at the top. Division II is about the same, though Port Lavaca Calhoun’s now-forfeited win over Alice jumped them to No. 6, and A&M Consolidated dropped a couple of spots ahead fo their showdown with Lamar Consolidated.

Lowest-Ranked Undefeated Team: DI No. 44 Friendswood (5-0)

Highest-Ranked Winless Team: DI No. 60 Mansfield Legacy (0-5)

Fastest One-Week Riser: DII No. 31 Crosby (beat Dayton 44-0, up 30 spots from No. 61)

CLASS 4A

At The Top… We have a new No. 1 atop the DI rankings as Carthage’s big win over Pleasant Grove vaults them to the No. 1 spots. Curiously, the computer now like La Vega more than Argyle…despite Argyle’s head-to-head win. Sealy drops from 4 to 8 with its first loss. In DII, Pleasant Grove holds on to the top spot despite its loss, and the rest of the top 10 is similarly chalky, though Lubbock Estacado creeped up into the top 5.

Lowest-Ranked Undefeated Team: DI No. 57 Pleasanton (6-0)

Highest-Ranked Winless Team: DII No. 35 Texarkana Liberty-Eylau (0-6)

CLASS 3A

At The Top… There’s a shocking new No. 1 atop the 3A DI rankings: Diboll, who smashed Crockett and jumped all the way to the top spot as a result, usurping Wall. Bushland is down two spots to No. 6, and Jefferson is down just one spot after losing a close one to Hughes Springs. Pottsboro sneaks into the Top 10. In DII ,it’s much chalkier, with Clifton and Crane finding their way into the top 10 and Rogers making a nice leap to No. 5.

Lowest-Ranked Undefeated Team: DII No. 71 Corsicana Mildred (5-0)

Highest-Ranked Winless Team: DII No. 20 Childress (0-5)

DIVISION I: Diboll over Wall by 2 (last week: Wall over Grandview by 2)

DIVISION II: Newton over Canadian by 4 (last week: Newton over Canadian by 3)

CLASS 2A

At The Top… Pretty rare to have a completely and totally chalky week in the Top 10, but that’s what we’ve got in 2A Division I — no team budged at all. Division II was a little more volatile, though not much — No. 6 Albany and No. 7 Gruver (who lost this week to Wheeler) switched spots, and Wheeler jumped up to No. 8 with its impressive win. Flatonia is down a couple spots to No. 10 with its loss to Weimar.

Lowest-Ranked Undefeated Team: DII No. 32 Agua Dulce (5-0)

Highest-Ranked Winless Team: DII No. 60 La Villa (0-5)

Projected Title Games Right Now…

DIVISION I: Shiner over San Saba by 3 (last week: Shiner over San Saba by 5)

DIVISION II: Wellington over Mart by 6 (last week: Wellington over Mart by 6)

CLASS 1A

At The Top… Holy Garden City! The Bearkats made a huge leap from No. 12 to No. 2 with their dominating 78-32 win over Strawn. Union Hill made a similar jump, up to No. 8 after soaring past Oakwood. In DII, Strawn’s loss tumbled the Greyhounds from No. 1 to No. 7, returning Jayton to the top spot. Grandfalls-Royalty enters the top 3 with a nice win over Fort Davis.
