Slaton (3-0) at Post (3-0):

One of the real surprise stories in the Lubbock area is Slaton as head coach Clint Conkin has turned the Tigers from a team that had won just five games total from 2021-2023 into a real threat on the South Plains. They get their biggest test of the young season as they head south to take on a strong Post bunch.

Slaton cruised to an easy 35-7 win over New Deal last week. The Tigers entered Week 3 with the highest scoring offense in 3A-Division II, but it was the defense that stole the show last week. Slaton held NDHS to just 155 yards and eight first downs on the night. Z'Qedrian Whaley came up with two timely interceptions for the Tigers, returning one to the two-yard line and they even recovered a fumble in the end zone for a score. It was a balanced offensive attack forn SHS as four different offensive players scored rushing touchdowns.

Post handled Seagraves, 33-16, a week ago as the Bold Gold behind four touchdown runs from Randon Curtis raced out to a 33-3 lead before putting the backups in to close the game out.

Slaton’s overall speed and athleticism will be a real chore for Post to contain. If Slaton’s able to crack some big plays, I don’t think Post has the firepower this year to keep up.
