Every Class 5A Preseason District MVP in the 2025 Magazine

1-5A DI

Offensive MVP: Ryan Estrada (El Paso El Dorado, RB)

Estrada (6'0, 195), a Minnesota commit, is a four-year starter who earned District Overall MVP with 2,422 yards and 34 total touchdowns, powering El Dorado's undefeated regular season. 

Defensive MVP: Isaiah Alferez (El Paso Americas, DB)

Alferez (6'0, 175), is a sideline-to-sideline defender who earned District Defensive MVP last season with 46 tackles, five interceptions, three pass breakups and a sack. 

2-5A DI

Offensive MVP: Jett Lopez (Amarillo, QB)

Lopez (6'1, 205) broke every program passing record last season with 3,007 yards, 36 touchdowns and just three interceptions. He also added 10 touchdowns on the ground. Amarillo's 42 points per game was the second most in program history, only trailing the 1928 team that scored 102 points, 95 points and 74 points in a game. 

Defensive MVP: Krush Johnson (Amarillo Tascosa, DL)

The Texas Tech commit recorded 103 tackles as an interior defensive lineman as Tascosa overcame a 1–3 start to reach the regional semifinals.

 

3-5A DI

Offensive MVP: Kaydon Finley (Aledo, WR)

Finley, a four-year starter, is closing in on all of Aledo's receiving records after catching 81 passes for 1,432 yards and 21 touchdowns. A preseason All-State selection and the son of former NFL player and Texas legend Jermichael Finley, Kaydon is off to Notre Dame after his senior season. 

Defensive MVP: Uzziah "Cookie" Warmate (Denton Ryan, DL)

Warmate (6'0, 250) was the District Defensive MVP and is on the preseason All-State team after posting nine sacks in 2024. He and defensive end Errol West headline DCTX's pick for the best defensive line unit in Class 5A. 

4-5A DI

Offensive MVP: Jashaun Thomas (Fort Worth Pachal, QB)

Thomas (5'9, 160) led Paschal to its first playoff berth since 1995 with 1,370 rushing yards, 620 rushing yards and 27 total touchdowns.

Defensive MVP: Caynan James (Fort Worth Arlington Heights, DL)

Coach Curtis James calls Caynan the, "strongest player I have ever coached." The UTEP commit stands at 6'2, 284 pounds and earned First Team All-District with 80 tackles, 14 tackles for loss and five sacks. Caynan is a four-year starter. 

5-5A DI

Offensive MVP: Karece Hoyt (Frisco Lone Star, ATH)

Hoyt (6'2, 200) was the District MVP as a sophomore quarterback last season, but Coach Jeff Rayburn is switching him to running back and safety so he can have a larger impact on both sides of the ball. 

Defensive MVP: Preston Healy (Frisco Reedy, DE)

Healy (6'3, 235) is a big and strong defensive end who also flashes above average quickness on tape. He earned First Team All-District honors with 44 tackles, six tackles for loss and five sacks.  

6-5A DI

Offensive MVP: Cason Garcia (Carrollton Creekview, QB)

Garcia led Creekview to an 8–3 record as a sophomore after the program went winless in 2022 and 2023. The signal caller earned District Offensive Newcomer of the Year with 1,598 passing yards and 23 total touchdowns. Coach Dusty Ortiz says Garcia has bulked up to 6'2, 185 over the offseason. 

Defensive MVP: Jeremiah Bio (West Mesquite, ATH)

Bio (6'2, 190) is a hybrid edge/outside linebacker who used his 4.4 40-yard dash speed to rack up 11 sacks in a First Team All-District season in 2024.  

7-5A DI

Offensive MVP: Buck Randall (Highland Park, QB)

Randall (5'11, 180) became the first sophomore to start at quarterback for Highland Park since Matthew Stafford, then led the Scots to the Class 5A Division I State Championship game. He and wide receiver Cannon Bozman were ranked as the top QB/WR duo in Class 5A by DCTX. 

 

Defensive MVP: Desmond Cox (Red Oak, LB)

Cox (6'0, 205), a Memphis commit, was a First Team All-District outside linebacker with 145 tackles, 15 tackles for loss and seven pass breakups. He changed the game's momentum numerous times last season with nine forced fumbles, two pick-sixes and two blocked punts. 

8-5A DI

Offensive MVP: Jett Walker (Georgetown, RB)

Walker (6'2, 210) is the focal point of one of Class 5A's best offenses. The West Virginia commit rushed for 2,348 yards on 10.7 yards per carry and scored 38 total touchdowns, earning First Team Padilla Poll All-State honors. 

Defensive MVP: Jahiem Porter (Cedar Park, LB)

Porter (6'1, 220) has picked up UTSA and UTEP offers after posting 103 tackles, 14 tackles for loss and three fumble recoveries. He and defensive lineman Olujimi Aluko are returning First Team All-District players for Cedar Park's "Black Rain" defense.

9-5A DI

Offensive MVP: Javion Johnson (Lufkin, QB)

A torn labrum sidelined Johnson for all but one half of football in 2024, which has left the 6'2, 185 quarterback hungry for redemption. New Coach Carl Abseck says Johnson has shown great leadership skills this offseason. 

Defensive MVP: Tank King (Port Arthur Memorial, LB)

King (6'2, 220) is the No.1-ranked inside linebacker in the DCTX Hot 100. The Texas A&M commit registered 141 tackles, 23 tackles for loss and three sacks in 2024.

10-5A DI

Offensive MVP: Cary Clay (Galena Park, RB)

Clay is the key cog in Galena Park's Gun 2 Back offensive machine. The 5'5, 165 running back is the reigning District Offensive MVP with 1,465 rushing yards and 22 touchdowns. 

Defensive MVP: Jacob Booth (Houston Sterling, LB)

Dedreck Carr is the new head coach, but Houston Sterling has the same mission - making the playoffs for the seventh consecutive year. Booth (5'11, 185) will lead the defense after breaking out as a sophomore with 60 tackles and eight sacks. 

11-5A DI

Offensive MVP: Sean Simon (La Porte, RB)

Simon (5'11, 195) rushed for 1,609 yards and 21 touchdowns in 2024, earning District Offensive Newcomer of the Year as a freshman despite sharing the backfield with District Offensive MVP Tyresse Barnes. He is one of the state's top Class of 2028 prospects. 

Defensive MVP: Brynden Mack (Angleton, DE)

Mack (6'3, 250) was a TSWA All-State selection last season with 62 tackles, 15 tackles for loss and eight sacks. He is one of the few returnees along Angleton's defensive front.

12-5A DI

Offensive MVP: Jaxon Schad (Pflugerville Weiss, QB)

Schad came off the bench as a freshman to fill in for injured senior Jax Brown and earned District Offensive Newcomer of the Year with 2,689 yards, 32 touchdowns and six interceptions. He and four-star wide receiver Tre Moore will be the focal points of new head coach Malcolm Hill's first season. 

 

Defensive MVP:Cole Flanagan (College Station, LB)

Flanagan (6'0, 210) was elected team captain as a junior and responded with 120 tackles, 12 tackles for loss, seven sacks, five pass breakups and two forced fumbles. He's the defensive lynchpin of a College Station program seeking 10 wins for the sixth consecutive year.

13-5A DI

Offensive MVP:Cayden Mills (New Braunfels, WR)

Mills (6'1, 165) racked up 1,218 receiving yards and 15 touchdowns on over 20 yards per catch. The senior is a dynamic athlete with a 4.45 40-yard dash and 37' vertical jump.

Defensive MVP: Hudson Woods (Smithson Valley, DL)

Woods (6'4, 230), an SMU commit, was the District's Defensive Player of the Year despite playing the entire season with a fractured wrist. He had 66 tackles, 20 tackles for loss and 13 sacks in Smithson Valley's first ever state championship season.  

14-5A DI

Offensive MVP: Alex Flores (South San Antonio, RB)

Flores's (5'8, 190) 1,426 rushing yards and 16 touchdowns led South San Antonio to an 8–3 season, their best win total since 1998. 

Defensive MVP: JaMarcus Conyers (San Antonio Southwest, LB)

Conyers (6'1, 170) missed the entirety of the 2024 regular season but had 10 quarterback pressures in three playoff games as Southwest matched the school record for season wins (12–1). 

15-5A DI

Offensive MVP: Ethan Guerra (PSJA North, RB)

PSJA North will rely on RB Guerra (5'8, 185) to run them to a fourth straight district championship in 2025. He earned District Overall Co-MVP and Second Team Padilla Poll All-State last season with 1,870 yards and 17 touchdowns. 

Defensive MVP: Tristan Wilson (CC Flour Bluff, LB)

Flour Bluff is also going for a fourth straight district championship (they were in a different district from PSJA North for the first two and split the third). LB Wilson (6'0, 215), will be the focal point of the defense after earning First Team All District inside linebacker with 118 tackles, nine tackles for loss and three sacks. 

16-5A DI

Offensive MVP: Shelby Sital (Mission, WR)

Sital (5'9, 156) was named a First Team All-District wide receiver last year for his game-breaking speed, which he used to haul in 47 passes for 624 yards and nine touchdowns. 

Defensive MVP: Dalton Keller (McAllen Memorial, LB)

Memorial is far more experienced on the offensive side, where nine starters return to just three on defense. But th defense has the headliner in Keller (6'2, 185) the District's Defensive Player of the Year in 2024. 

1-5A DII

Offensive MVP: Jake Fette (El Paso Del Valle, QB)

Fette (6'2, 190) is Class 5A's Preseason All-State quarterback after throwing for 2,488 yards and 32 touchdowns and rushing for 589 yards with 11 touchdowns. The Arizona State commit led Del Valle to a playoff win, the only team in the El Paso area to do so in 2024. 

Defensive MVP: Jared Gamiz (Canutillo, LB)

Gamiz (5'10, 190) posted 68 tackles in a Second Team All-District performance in 2024. Look for him to also serve as Canutillo's short-yardage back, where he had four touchdowns a season ago. 

2-5A DII

Offensive MVP: Joe Castles (Wichita Falls Memorial, QB)

Castles (6'7, 220), an Abilene Christian commit, led Wichita Falls Memorial to a 9–3 record in its debut varsity season, earning Second Team All-District quarterback with 2,580 yards and 31 touchdowns.

Defensive MVP: Sione Vaea (Lubbock Cooper, DL)

At 6'1, 270, Vaea has the versatility to alternate from interior defensive tackle to rush end. He was a First Team All-District selection with 90 tackles, nine sacks and nine tackles for loss. 

3-5A DII

Offensive MVP: Maguire Gasperson (Argyle, QB)

Gasperson (6'0, 195), a UTSA commit, was the District Overall MVP with 3,277 total yards and 34 touchdowns. The returning team captain has a loaded supporting cast with RB Watson Bell (1,329 rushing yards and 20 touchdowns), TCU TE commit Braden Bach and four-star wide receiver Julian Caldwell. 

Defensive MVP: De'Marius Logan (Colleyville Heritage, DE)

Logan (6'2, 250) was a First Team All-District defensive end with 64 tackles, 10 tackles for loss and seven sacks. Coach Jerry Edwards describes him as an, "explosive edge rusher who is the anchor of our defensive line."

4-5A DII

Offensive MVP: Ziondre Williams (Anna, QB)

Williams (6'0, 168) led Anna to its first state championship as a sophomore and followed it up with 4,308 total yards and 38 touchdowns as a junior. He is the No.7-ranked quarterback in the DCTX Hot 100.

Defensive MVP: Aston Whiteside (Lovejoy, LB)

Whiteside (6'2, 195) is a hybrid outside linebacker/strong safety who earned District Defensive Newcomer of the Year as a sophomore with 105 tackles five pass breakups, three tackles for loss and two interceptions. 

5-5A DII

Offensive MVP: Mikail Trotter (South Oak Cliff, RB)

Troter (5'10, 185) had 1,170 yards and 18 touchdowns splitting carries as a junior. He had a 75-yard touchdown run in the Class 5A DII State Championship classic against Richmond Randle.

Defensive MVP: Jamarion Phillips (South Oak Cliff, LB)

Phillips (6'1, 220), a Baylor commit, was the District Defensive MVP with 90 tackles, 14 tackles for loss, three sacks and five blocked kicks. 

6-5A DII

Offensive MVP: Aljour MIles (Kaufman, WR)

Miles (6'3, 210), an SMU commit, is a Preseason Class 5A All-State selection after catching 79 passes for 1,437 yards and 14 touchdowns.

Defensive MVP: Noah Lewis (Terrell, DB)

Lewis (6'0, 185) is called "Show Time" for his big-play ability on both sides of the ball. The Texas Tech commit had three interceptions on defense as a First Team All-District cornerback and a Second Team All-District wide receiver. 

7-5A DII

Offensive MVP:Tradarian Ball (Texas High, RB)

Ball (5'11, 185), an Oregon commit, is the No.3-ranked overall player in the DCTX Hot 100 and the highest-ranked running back. He possesses rare dual-threat ability with 1,017 receiving yards, 777 rushing yards and 25 total touchdowns.  

Defensive MVP: DeCorian Thompson (Mount Pleasant, DB)

Marshall LB Landen Jones, who moved to Melissa, was the magazine pick. Thompson (5'10, 170) was a worthy pick even before Jones transferred. The UTEP commit was a First Team All-District selection at both wide receiver and cornerback in 2024 with 600 receiving yards and six touchdowns and 45 tackles and three interceptions. 

8-5A DII

Offensive MVP: Traeshawn Brown (Huntsville, RB)

New head coach Todd Moebes inherits one of Class 5A's best running backs in Brown (5'10, 190). The First Team All-District selection had 1,340 yards and 14 touchdowns. 

Defensive MVP: Jaxin Winfrey (Port Neches-Groves, LB)

Winfrey (6'0, 190) is a rangy inside linebacker who posted 87 tackles, 15 tackles for loss, three sacks and one blocked kick. 

9-5A DII

Offensive MVP: Landen Williams-Callis (Richmond Randle, RB)

Williams-Callis (5'8, 187) was Padilla Poll Class 5A DII Offensive Player of the Year with 2,108 rushing yards and 45 touchdowns. He is the No.2-ranked running back in the Class of 2027 per 247Sports. 

Defensive MVP: Isaiah Williams (Fort Bend Marshall, DB)

Williams (6'2, 190), an Illinois commit, finished with 56 tackles and five tackles for loss despite battling injury all season. He, Utah commit Dylan Waters and Myles Ratcliff give Fort Bend Marshall one of Class 5A's best secondary groups. 

10-5A DII

Offensive MVP: Jakoby Dixon (Brenham, RB)

Dixon (5'10, 210) is the Class 5A Preseason Offensive Player of the Year after rushing for 2,248 yards and 32 touchdowns as a sophomore. He is the headliner of a Brenham squad that returns 17 of 22 starters from an 11–2 season.  

Defensive MVP: Joaquin Martinez (Waco University, LB)

Martinez (5'11, 200) was a First Team All-District linebacker in 2024 with 120 tackles, 11 tackles for loss and four sacks. Coach Charles Foster calls him the, "heart and soul of our defense." 

11-5A DII

Offensive MVP: Jack Pitchford (Liberty Hill, ATH)

Pitchford (6'1, 195) played running back, wide receiver, quarterback, safety and returned kicks as a junior. He could see more action at quarterback in 2025 for new head coach David Seaborn. 

Defensive MVP: Tiki Hola (Bastrop, DL)

Hola (6'3, 305), a Notre Dame commmit, is the Class 5A Preseason Defensive Player of the Year after posting 102 tackles and 10 tackles for loss. He is the No.4-ranked defensive tackle in the DCTX Hot 100. 

12-5A DII

Offensive MVP: Ja'Zavien Lloyd (San Antonio Lanier, RB)

Lanier only loses three starters from each side of the ball from last year's playoff team. District 12-5A DII opponents should expect a heavy does of RB Lloyd (1,334 rushing yards, 16 touchdowns) once again. Lloyd was a unanimous First Team All-District selection in 2024.  

Defensive MVP: Ramsey Chavarria (San Antonio Burbank, DL)

Chavarria (6'4, 255) was a First Team All-District selection in 2024 after posting 70 tackles, nine tackles for loss and four sacks. He holds offers from Texas State and UIW.

13-5A DII

Offensive MVP: D.K. Garza (Alamo Heights, RB)

Garza (5'10, 185) was a unanimous First Team All-District running back who impacts the game as a rusher (1,365 yards, 25 touchdowns), receiver (214 yards, two touchdowns) and return specialist (two kickoff return touchdowns). The Cornell commit will be the focal point for Alamo Heights in 2025, a program that's gone 48–5 since 2021. 

Defensive MVP: Ben Bays (Boerne, DL)

Bays (6'4, 220) was a First Team All-District tight end as a junior with 531 receiving yards and six touchdowns. New head coach Brett Sawyer, elevated from defensive coordinator, could use him more at defensive end in 2025. Bays has double-digit scholarship offers. 

14-5A DII

Offensive MVP: Cody Adame (Gregory-Portland, RB)

Adame (5'11, 175) is a three-year starter who rushed for 1,300 yards and 16 touchdowns in a Second Team All-District season in 2024. Look for him to be the bellcow for a Gregory-Portland offense breaking in a new QB.

Defensive MVP: Jayden Vela (Corpus Christi MIller, LB)

Vela (5'8, 175) was a First Team All-District selection with 158 tackles, 19 tackles for loss and four sacks, all of which led the team. He'll be the lynchpin for Miller's defense, which should be the team's strength. 

15-5A DII

Offensive MVP: Calvin Harris (Sharyland, QB)

Harris (6'0, 175) was the District Offensive Player of the Year with 2,943 yards and 30 touchdowns through the air and 700 yards and 12 touchdowns on the ground. He should be dangerous in 2025 with the return of his top two receivers, Paco Gomez and Bruno Cavazos. 

Defensive MVP: Ryan Guerra (Mission Veterans Memorial, LB)

Coach David Gilpin calls Guerra, "a tackling machine on the edge. He does not miss." The 5'9, 175 outside linebacker racked up 105 tackles, 32 tackles for loss and five sacks in a First Team All-District season in 2024. 

16-5A DII

Offensive MVP: Robert Sanchez (Mercedes, RB)

Sanchez (5'9, 185) was the District Offensive Player of the Year with 1,965 total yards and 29 touchdowns. He'll run behind experienced offensive linemen Eddie Ramirez and Alex Garcia.

Defensive MVP:Derek Cardenas (Edcouch-Elsa, DE)

Cardenas (5'10, 180) wins with an elite first step. The explosive athlete had 32 tackles, six tackles for loss and two sacks as a junior.
