July 4 was already a day to remember for Mansfield Lake Ridge 2026 OT Felix Ojo (6'6, 275).

It’s his birthday.

But this year, he made it unforgettable by pulling off one of the biggest recruiting surprises in recent memory, maybe ever. Ojo committed to Texas Tech, a team not even listed among his publicly named finalists, which had included the likes of Texas, Michigan, Ohio State and Florida.

To make the day even bigger, Ojo was also officially elevated to five-star status in the 2026 DCTX Rising 100, checking in as the No. 1 offensive tackle and No. 2 overall prospect in Texas.

And now, he has become the highest-rated offensive lineman Texas Tech has ever landed and the second-highest-rated commit in program history, behind only five-star wide receiver Micah Hudson.

The Red Raiders weren't viewed as a serious contender (or even named as a finalist) leading into decision day, but their persistence clearly paid off.

Ojo has the tools to anchor a Power Five offensive line and will enter Lubbock with national accolades already under his belt. He played in the Navy All-American Bowl and is slated to compete in the Under Armour Next All-America Game, putting him in position to become the first TXHSFB player to participate in both premier postseason showcases.

Ojo’s is an athletic talent, who’s evolved into a polished, dominant force.

DCTX Scouting Report: Ojo looks like a power forward playing offensive line — long, athletic, and light on his feet. He shows the ability to punch and redirect defenders easily with quick footwork and natural mirroring. His frame and movement skills give him the potential to play on either side of the line, though his upside at left tackle is rare. When he fires off the ball with intent, he can generate movement at the point of attack and has the speed to pull or lead on screens.

This commitment proves that Texas Tech is building something real in Lubbock, fueled by a coaching staff with deep TXHSFB ties, and backed by the resources to compete for the state's elite.

Ojo’s announcement added one more spark to the Red Raiders' fans' Independence Day celebration, lighting up all of Lubbock.
