Expect the Aggies to lean on the running game with Marcel Reed chosen as the future at quarterback. He’ll be joined in the backfield by a trio of talented running backs in Le’Veon Moss, Amari Daniels, and former five-star Reuben Owens. The offensive line returns all five starters, including left tackle Trey Zuhn and right guard Armaj Reed-Adams. The real question marks are on the defensive side of the ball for Mike Elko in Year 2. Texas A&M must replace defensive ends Shemar Stewart and Nic Scourton while improving against the pass. The 2025 schedule is tougher than it was in 2024.
TEXAS A&M AGGIES
2024 record: 8-5 (5-3)
Overview
The Aggies have the toughest schedule in Texas thanks to road games against a trio of national championship contenders in Notre Dame, LSU, and Texas. The home schedule isn’t a walk in Aggie Park, either, thanks to contests at Kyle Field against Auburn, Florida, and South Carolina. Lose those six games and the Aggies could be struggling to reach a bowl game in Year 2 of the Mike Elko era. And that’s without factoring in trips to Missoui and Arkansas. It is possible that Texas A&M is a better team in 2025 but can’t show it because of this schedule.
Biggest Game – Nov. 29 at Texas
Knocking off the “t-sips” for the first time since a trip to Austin in 2010 is high on the priority list for Texas A&M. Punctuating Year 2 of the Mike Elko era with a win over the Horns would be priceless for on- and off-field momentum in Aggieland.
Trap Game – Oct. 18 at Arkansas
Old Southwest Conference foes Texas A&M and Arkansas meet in Arkansas for the first time since 2013. The Aggies have won 12 of their last 13 against the Razorbacks, but the mid-October trip is sandwiched between a home game against Florida and a trip to LSU.
Upset Bid – Sept. 13 at Notre Dame
The first of three tough road challenges for Texas A&M in 2025 is against Notre Dame in South Bend. The Fighting Irish knocked off the Aggies in College Station during last year’s season opener and ended the year in the national title game.
Can’t Lose – Oct. 18 at Arkansas
The timing of this Arkansas game makes it a vital one for Texas A&M to handle business. The Aggies entered last season on a 10-game losing streak in road games so an upset isn’t out of the question. The trip to Arkansas is the first of three consecutive road games for the Aggies and the game before is at home against Florida. Lose to Arkansas and a four-game losing streak in the middle of the season isn’t off the table.
Most Important Stretch – Oct. 25-Nov. 15
Take care of business against Arkansas and win home games against Auburn and Florida earlier in the year and the Aggies could be in the SEC running for the second straight season. Last year, Elko’s squad started 7-1 before losing its last four to Power Four teams, including the bowl game against USC. This year, the month of October ends with a trip to LSU and the first two games of November are at Mizzou and home to South Carolina. Go 2-1 and Texas A&M is in contention. Go 1-2 or worse and the regular season finale against Texas loses national appeal.
