We've read every name on every team preview in the 2025 Dave Campbell's Texas Football magazine. Here are the best ones you'll see when it hits stores this summer.

Honorable Mention: Wylie East DB Oghenerukevwe Eruvwetaghware

The toughest name to pronounce in Texas. Nicknamed "Ruke" by teammates and coaches, the senior cornerback allowed zero touchdowns through the regular season in 2024. The 6-1, 175-pound prospect has offers from UTEP, Sam Houston and Southern Miss.

15. Wylie HC Jimmy Carter

This is an awesome name on two levels. Either you abbreviate to "Coach Carter" like Samuel L. Jackson's title character in the 2005 sports drama. Or you say the full government name, not to be confused with former U.S. president Jimmy Carter.

14. Jersey Village QB Champion Ellis

Basically calling your shot as a parent that your son will be a star athlete. Champion, a junior, got his first varsity start in November of last year and figures to take the job over full-time in 2025.

13. Alvin LB/FB Turtle Orozco

Coach James Gage describes Orozco as a Swiss Army Knife that can play in all three phases of the game. He's a true team player, just like the character that shares his name in the HBO show "Entourage."

12. Hooks QB/LB Ripken Birdwell

Birdwell may or may not have been named after Cal Ripken Jr., the Baltimore Orioles shortstop who broke the MLB record for consecutive games played. But he's making his own name on the football field, where he's started for four years at Hooks. He had just under 3,000 all-purpose yards and 33 touchdowns as a junior.

11. Irving WR/CB Napoleon Proctor

Much like the French general he shares a name with, Proctor is always looking to catch the opponent off guard with a big offensive campaign.

10. North Forney QB Legend Bey

Bey just edges out DeSoto quarterback Legend Howell on the list. Bey was the District 10-6A Offensive MVP last season with 1,500 passing yards and 1,927 rushing yards.

9. Frisco Lone Star QB John Madden

The first name most people associate with football is John Madden, whether that be for his Super Bowl Championship as the Oakland Raiders head coach, his illustrious broadcasting career or the video game. Frisco Lone Star's QB looks to put up video game numbers himself this fall.

8. Amarillo Tascosa DT Krush Johnson

Krush Johnson sounds like the name of the scariest player on the other defense in a pee wee football movie. Johnson, a Texas Tech commit, was a First Team All-District 2-5A DI selection as a junior with a whopping 103 tackles as an interior defensive tackle.

7. Port Arthur Memorial LB Tank King

Is there a better name for a linebacker? King, the No. 33 overall player in the DCTF Hot 100, had 141 tackles and 23 tackles for loss last season.

6. Albany OL/DL Shooter Shoaf

Originally, I thought Shooter would make a great quarterback or point guard. But the more I study the list, the more I like it for an offensive lineman.

5. Tidehaven WR Boogie Galvan

Galvan, one of the few two-way starters on Class 3A power Tidehaven, will do a lot of boogieing in the end zone in 2025.

4. New Caney West Fork HC Dougald McDougald

I respect a man who goes by Dougald and not Doug, especially given the circumstances.

3. Corpus Christi Miller LB Espn Cole

DA-NA-NA, DA-NA-NA. Expect a lot of Top 10 worthy plays from linebacker Espn Cole, whom Corpus Christi Miller head coach Justen Evans listed as the team's top junior.

2. Milford Slot/S Swish Washington

Swish Washington might be No. 1 on a list for Texas high school basketball. He passed for 1,473 yards and rushed for 1,344 yards at Class 1A Milford.

1. Fort Bend Willowridge QB Orville Rumble

2025 was a strong class of names, but Orville Rumble takes the dub in a hotly contested battle. Rumble figures to be the starter as a junior and has a big arm paired with a 6-3 frame.
