With this week's news that NFL players are now authorized to participate in flag football at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, we thought it would be fun for our staff to each pick one current Texas high school football player they'd want most on their flag football team.
Let us know who you would pick in the comments below and on our social channels!
___
GREG TEPPER
2026 ATH Jermaine Bishop, Willis - We need two-way stars if we're going to win a gold medal, so why not get a guy who's one of the state's best receivers and defensive backs?
MATT STEPP
2026 ATH Paris Melvin, Jr. Cy Springs - A speed merchant who can do it all. Melvin can run, catch and cover at an elite level. Forget about trying to pull a flag on him in the open field!!
GREG POWERS
2026 ATH Jalen Lott, Frisco Panther Creek - Texas is always deep at QB, but I’d build my 7v7 squad around Lott for his rare two-way ability. He’s a reliable route-runner, a vertical threat and a lockdown corner who can erase a No. 1 receiver. With over 45 offers and high interest in Texas, LSU, Georgia, Oregon, and USC, he’s one of the state’s most heavily recruited prospects.
WILLIAM WILKERSON
2027 DE/TE Zane Rowe, Denton Guyer - I'm taking one of the biggest physical freaks in all of the country here. At 6-foot-6 and 250 pounds, Rowe is going to make all the tough, contested catches to keep possession and is a lock to haul in those jump balls in the endzone. Then, on defense, who is going to want to go across the middle with Rowe in the way. Yeah, it's flag football and contact is limited. But, still... dude is intimidating as heck. Gimme Rowe all day.
CARTER YATES
2026 WR Ethan Feaster, DeSoto - We’ve watched Feaster ball out in 7on7 since he was an incoming ninth grader starting on a state championship team. Don’t over complicate this - he’s the number 1 wide receiver in the Class of 2026 and the first ever freshman five star on Dave Campbell’s.
CORY HOGUE
2026 QB Joe Castles, Wichita Falls Memorial - You need someone with a power arm and the ability to fit the ball in tight spaces. Castles has both traits, plus a fantastic football IQ to use when the play breaks down.
GAVIN MORITZ
2026 RB Tradarian Ball, Texas High - If I’m looking for explosiveness in a flag football game, I’m rolling with 2026 Texas High RB/WR Tradarian Ball. As I saw in-person in the Bi-District round last season, Ball has the ability to take the top off of any defense with ease. Going against him in space? Good luck.
