Top 10 Games on the First Friday Night of 2025 Season

10. Wink vs Lubbock Christian

Wink is out for revenge against Lubbock Christian, who beat them 40-29 in the season-opener last year. That'll start with running back Kmyd Faciane, who rushed for over 2,000 yards and 28 touchdowns last season. Lubbock Christian fans will get the first glimpse at a new quarterback after Walker Horn's (Trinity) graduation.

9. Allen vs Midland Legacy

Midland Legacy quarterback JP Reyes set the program's all-time single-game passing yards mark in his first career start. His performance against Allen's secondary, headlined by Lebron Bauer and Kai Wheaton, will determine the outcome.

8. Columbus vs Cuero

Columbus lost a plethora of performers from its first state championship team in program history (Mr. Texas Football winner Adam Schobel, linebacker John Schobel, and running back Grayson Rigdon). Who emerges as another weapon alongside wide receiver Braylon Fisher in Week 1 against Cuero?

7. Boerne vs San Antonio Pieper

Boerne went 11-4 last season - its first year in 5A. But now, they'll have to do it without quarterback Hank Hendrix, who followed his father and former Boerne head coach, Che, to Arkansas. How does the new QB look in his debut against a salty San Antonio Pieper squad that includes defensive tackle Thor Myklebust (12 tackles for loss, 5 sacks)?

6. West Orange-Stark vs Newton

This could be Week 1's best running back matchup. West Orange-Stark's Khelvy Jefferson may be 5-3, 150 pounds, but he packs a big punch with 1,417 total yards and 18 touchdowns. Newton's Kendray Porter Jr. (2,238 rushing yards 36 total TDs) has offers from Houston, Texas Tech and UTSA ahead of his junior season.

5. Bellville vs Celina

Celina's 49-30 season-opening victory over Bellville last fall was the first indication they might have a different type of quarterback in Bowe Bentley. But the DCTF four-star will have an almost entirely new offensive line in front of him this season. Bellville will be an early test to the repeat bid.

4. South Oak Cliff vs Galena Park North Shore

North Shore blanked South Oak Cliff 38-0 last season. South Oak Cliff has reached four consecutive state championships, but they frequently punch up to Class 6A powers in non-district. This game has some of the best Division I prospects from the two recruiting hotbeds of DFW and Houston.

3. Aledo vs Denton Guyer

Denton Guyer snapped Aledo's 30-game winning streak last year in a 35-30 win. One of those wins on the streak was Aledo's 48-45 triumph over Denton Guyer in Week 2 of the 2023 season. If this year's season-opener is like the last two battles, Texas high school football fans are in for a real treat.

2. Albany vs Stamford

Stamford crushed Albany, 50-6, last year, but the reigning state runner-up has questions to answer along both lines of scrimmage before district play. Albany junior defensive lineman Zane Green (100 tackles, 7.5 sacks) provides a necessary early test for the young group.

1. Kilgore vs Carthage

These bEast Texas rivals have played absolute bangers recently. In 2023, Carthage squeaked by with a 30-27 win. Kilgore handed Carthage its only loss (20-15) of the 2024 season. With senior stars on both sides, like Carthage running back KJ Edwards and Kilgore quarterback Kayson Brooks, this game should have fireworks.
