The three-time defending 3A Division II state champs have a new coach.
Gunter ISD voted Monday to name offensive coordinator Jordan Gill as the next head football coach and athletic director, succeeding Jake Fieszel, who resigned suddenly earlier this month.
Gill is entering his seventh season with the Tigers, overseeing the offense during Gunter's back-to-back-to-back state championship runs. Gill was named THSCA Assistant Coach of the Year in 2022 and 2023. From 2022 to 2024, the Tigers' offense ranked 10th, second and ninth in 3A Division II in scoring offense, respectively.
The move likely ensures that Gunter will keep their patented pistol-option offense intact. A former player at Southeastern Oklahoma State, Gill previously served as an assistant at Whitesboro for two seasons before joining the staff at Gunter.
Gill will be tasked with following Fieszel, who went 224-31 in 18 seasons as the Tigers' head coach, winning five state championships.
